more specific

ok well my fifth gear wont grab at all i throw in the clutch and it doesnt stay it. i try to hold it there and i bring the rpm's higher but it either get kicked out of the gear or it just wont grab it. i know that 5th and reverse work together with the same fork and i realize sometimes its harder to put it in reverse too. is this alittle more specific for you ?? Thank You

he was very specific on what he was asking for.

Get it rebuilt... theres allot of companies that advertise in 5.0 magezine that rebuild mustang transmissions for cheap.

o, rly?

Tell me, does he want another t-45, or something stronger? Does he have the stock shifter or an aftermarket unit w/ mis-adjusted stops? Maybe he's shifting into 5th at too low of an rpm. Maybe he wants to add some power in the future.

Maybe he wants to know what went wrong so he doesn't have the same prob in the future.

...

I would like to take mine to a trans shop but they are rediculous expensive and the one that came highly recommended didnt want to take mine apart when I explained that it feels ok on the street but at the track I have problems.

I cant get my car into 4th gear. I tightened my cable way up to make sure its not an adjustment and I dont think it is. This has been going on for years now and IM getting sick of disappointing trips to the race track and losign because I couldnt get it into 4th.

I would just get a new trans but mine costs around $3000

I think the trans this guy needs is cheaper. It might be better just to get a new trans and sell your old one to someone who rebuilds them.
I would rather get a new one then trust someone to fix mine.

Are you sure you do not have a bad clutch. Living in north jersey , why don't you take it to JDM jim sr and his son are some really knowledgeable people.

yeah

yeah I was at JDM for a few other things and they said that they drove it and it seemed ok. BUt the problem is it always seems ok on the street. AT the track 4th gear at high RPMs is real hard to go into. ON the street now 2nd gear is bad until the trans warms up. Always been that way but its much worse now.

JDM told me to move my seat up and thought it was me, but I had no problems ever with 4th gear and then all the sudden after my second clutch I couldnt find 4th. I would go into 2nd gear instead!

I thought it was something to do with the new clutch but on clutch number three it didnt get better. I had a different mechanic install my latest clutch and he checked everything including the retainer sleave. Everything seemed fine.

4th gear was always a no brainer so I am getting a new trans next. I'm going friday to try out my MT ET STREETS so ill mess with the adjuster some more.

I'm not going to bother getting a new trans if I cant cure the wheel hop problem i have. Just dont have the money to do it all. IM hoping the tires fix the hop so I can concentrate on the trans now.

Both T-45's in my Cobra have had problems. The first one would stay in 2nd gear SOMETIMES. Sometimes it would, other times it would pop out, but only on a downshift. It also grinded in reverse.

The second one grinds in reverse, and it is stiff to shift to 2nd and 3rd, but only on hot summer days/nights. Sometimes when you come to a light it won't go in to any gear. You have to be rolling and it will go in gear. If I stop and it won't go in I have to shut the car off, then it goes right in gear, start it back up and take off fine. It has ben like this for 3 4 years. I don't want to spend 3K to get the right stuff to fix it. because my next trans is a T-56

Stock t56? Because I thought they were very good.

yeah

Yeah Stock T56.. They are strong but it seems like they have lots of issues.. its hit or miss. Mine was great for two years of literally weekly drag racing before I started havign the issue im still having. It started right after a new clutch so I didnt believe it was trans related but im starting to except it now lol

I just came from the garage..getting ready for tomorow night. I adjusted my firewall adjuster to exactly 1/4 inch freeplay... The clutch engages way up high now but ill see if that helps...

I also changed over to the MGW adjuster handle I have had sitting around for a while. Its pretty short but I dont have to reach.. The freakin allen screws already came loose as I was screwing on the shifter handle though... IM bringing a few shifter handles to the track to try out..

ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG TO OVERINFLATE A MICKEY THOMPSON ET STREET TIRE TO STRETCH IT? I checked my new tires to see if they were with in the 3/4 inch difference in circumference and they are slightly more... MT site says to overinflate no more than 40lbs but doesnt say how long to keep it that way to get it to stretch.

aamco

Anyone ever use Aamco? I called one of their shops today and was impressed with the guy I talked to. He was turned off by me saying that I mostly race the car and that its ok on the street but a real problem at the track.

He said that its silly to buy a new trans because you are really getting a remanufactured trans and going to their shop will save money becuase they will only replace the parts you need.

Its free for them to check it out so in a few weeks if im still having issues Ill take it to the them.

I called the Aamco in Brunswick, NJ

OOPS!! Next time I'll check the date when doing a search for info....:(

And when it's in a thousand pieces on the floor they will give you the estimate for how much??? Ouch. What are you going to do then?? Pay the man that's what. I would find people who are pleased with that particular shop first!! Check with your track buddies before you go anywhere!!!

...

THATs ok im in the mood to comment..lol

I DID LISTEN TO THE TRACK GUYS... I heard great things about Bob Hanlon in PA and I heard great things from all the Vette guys about RPM TRansmissions rebuilt T56s

I went with a rebuilt Level V T56 from RPM and I still have serious shifting problems at the track and sloppy o the street..

IM hoping that it cant be two bad transmissions but I have been through a few clutches as well.. I want to try one more time to have a "Mustang" shop install yet another clutch and look over all the work I had a private mech. do with the trans. Otherwise I might just sell the car and save up for something in an auto that I can actually bracket race..
