Well I bought a 2002 Accent with the twin cam engine for city driving  I almost had my Mustang ruined because some ******* in a honda didn't stop at his red light (Vtec must have been in full force - no way to stop that much power ya know). So now my Mustang can rest during the week while the 4 banger gets used for the daily beatings. I'm pretty happy, the fuel savings alone help pay for the "new" car. I will upload new pics of the 'stang later with the polished cobra intake and radiator (yeah I started to polish my aluminum rad, the middle part on top is a freaking mirror now). I got the polish bug, I want to do my water pump, PS bracket and alternator. :bang: Thank you, all of you with shiny engine bays :nonono:

and....

you're saying 40 mpg in an Accent right?

When driving the 200 miles from the mnts. to the beachs of VA @ 65-70 mph i can get 29-30 mpg in my 331 stroked Stang coupe. I guess what I'm trying to say is that 40mpg from a 4 cyl. isn't really impressive. You paid too much for too little. Get a hybrid next time, the tax incentive alone will pay for the added cost.

he got 40mpg in the city, not the highway. your car in the same environment would be lucky to see 15.

I get 31-35 mpg in my ZX2 which is driving on all 2-lane roads about 40-55mph limits with plenty of traffic and lights. plus according internet sources it is capable of a mid 15 second 1/4 mile. now thats one hell of a car if you ask me :nice:

you missed the point, 40 mpg for city driving is pretty damn good if you ask me. highway driving i bet he's pushing 60 mpg

how do you get 30mpg in a 331, the MOST I got was 27mpg in my STOCK 5.0 with all good sensors, driving BELOW the speed limit and tires inflated to around 36psi  Yeah the accent costs me 20 bucks a week where the Mustang will cost me that PER DAY! City driving in my stang is expensive, the important thing is that I have money left over for go fast parts and plus put less milage on the stang :)

The Tax Incentive several years ago was 2 Grand and that wasnt close to covering the extra cost of one and the last I heard it was 500 Bucks and then to be phased out. You are much better off with just a plain 4 Cylinder or Diesel car than the Hybrid.

diesel is where its at lol...a friend of mine has a diesel golf that gets over 50mpg and he modified it and its now a high 13 second car and the bilstein coil overs make it handle like its on rails...its weird but cool at the same time

plus diesel is as much as 30 cents cheaper than gas in many areas...bonussss

sorry, I overlooked that it was city mileage. that makes a difference! At the same time still, my girl got a Hybrid Escape which was a $3500 option and got a $2000 tax incentive (which I didn't know was going away) and gets 35+ mpg city in a 5000 lb. 4x4 SUV!

For the stang Mileage, If I am actually driving with sense and being good :flag: I get 30 MPG hwy yes, with a 331. Granted all I have to do is punch it a few times and I'm down to 23-25 mpg. Keep in mind I'm cruising @ 1750 rpms @ 70 mph with the throttle 1/2" down, slightly slower and I'm chirping tires! Around town (in Hampton Roads is 70% hwy) I get 18-21 mpg, which is better than I would expect myself.

Congrats on the Accent, I'm sure the ladies love it.

Are you sure it is an Escape, Ford lists the curb weight at 3547 Lbs Loaded, thats a far cry from 5000 Lbs? Ford was holding classes for owners of Escape Hybrids because of Serious Complaints of Owners not even getting 30 MPG in hopes to up their MPGs, she is doing damn good at 35+! MotorWeek just finished testing an Escape Hybrid and the best MPGs they got out of a tank during the year they had it was 32.

The 5000 was a guess. Didn't know of any problems with the mileage. EPA was 34 city I and 30 ish Hwy on the sticker.

looked at a Focus, had less mileage, same year, cost more (better equipped) and IT WAS RUSTING! I hate Cavs and Sunfires, no way will I ever get one of those things, Neons aren't my thing either.

I was happy that I got another 26 MPG tank in the TurdBird today ... and that's with the A/C running 50% of the time! I could probably squeak out 30 MPG this winter, driving with the A/C off and the windows up. Sure, not as good as 40 MPG ... but I have 4 extra cylinders and twice the horsepower/torque as a Hyundai Accent, so nyah. :p

Some days, I miss my first car, though... ('89 Geo Metro, 45 MPG average)
