Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and have a few quick questions. I recently purchased a used 06 GT M/5 with 11K on the clock. I traded in my 04 GTO to buy the GT. I'm not too familiar with this engine or the car as a whole. The only thing I know about it is that I really like it. (I spent a bit of time in LS1 country.) Anyway, are there any free mods to start with? Beyond that I was thinking axle back, Hurst Shifter, and an air intake to start. How does that sound to you guys. Thanks in advance! :)

Your rear cupholder has a false bottom.
Removing that allows you Go Girl energy drink to sit lower, thereby reducing drag and improving aerodynamics, lowering your time in the 1/4 mile.

Hows the difference between the 5.7 and the 4.6 feel?

My old GTO was an A/4 and a much heavier car, two very different rides! In terms of the 5.7 compared to the 4.6......Stock vs Stock they seem pretty evenly matched. I think the M/5 4.6 would probably walk away from a stock A/4 04 5.7.

I don't know about the LS1, but these cars really only gain sound from an axle back swap, the stock mufflers are reasonaby efficient.

It still needs to have a louder exhaust though...:)

You've got the right idea as first mods. Don't forget a tune if you go with an aftermarket CAI, most of them require a tune unless specified otherwise. A couple of great places to look at would be www.bamachips.com and www.brenspeed.com. They are both great tuners which really wake the 4.6's up.

I don't have them, but a lot of people swear by 4.10 gears. An aluminum driveshaft is a great mod to do although a little pricey. Of course underdrive pullies and charge motion delete plates are smaller mods that don't net quite as big of results as some of the bigger mods, but comparitively speaking, they don't cost near as much ($130 for the plates, 200 or so for the pullies). Both are good for around 7ish horsepower.

Also, if it doesn't have lowering springs on it already, get some and get rid of that 4X4 look! A good place to start looking around at those would be www.steeda.com. I have their Ultralite springs and love them. They put right at a 1" drop all the way around.

By the way, welcome to :SNSign:

Thanks for the advice!

I bet the 4.10's would really put the car in a nice power band! That's definitely on the list.

Yeah, it does seem to sit a bit high.

Thank you! Glad to be aboard!

it's nice to see a ls1'er hop the ford fence! welcome! i would start w/ 4.10 gears, cai, flash tuner and some sticky tires. that should make for a hell of a sleeper! then I would get full exhaust.......etc.(dreaming of owning a 3v):p

It's kind of funny how I ended up in a Mustang.....

I was out of town and made the mistake of not reserving a rental car, (I was just looking for a compact to bang around town in.) The only cars the rental agency had were two vert's. The first was something Japanese, I don't recall what exactly. The second choice was a V6 Mustang. Well, I of course, took the Mustang. I was very impressed with the car overall! I found myself thinking if the six banger was nice, the V8 has to be that much better. Now, a couple weeks later, I have an 06 GT M/5 with 11k on the clock sitting in my garage! My only regret is that I don't have more money for mods yet!! :nice:

Like I was saying, it's not a massive drop, just enough to kill the 4x4 look and still have great ride quality.

I just got ultralites put on my 06 GT yesterday and at first I didn't think it looked like it was any lower but I had measured the height before I had them installed and I actually dropped about 1 1/2" in back and 1" in front. It was 29.5" in back and 29" in front now it's 28" all around.
