ok i did the 3G conversion and hooked all the wires up where they're supposed to go but when i put a voltage reader on the stud i get 12.22. when i test the green wire i get a 0 reading so i connected a wire from the stud to the green wire and the alternator kicks on, squeels and reads something like 13.5-14V. my question is, is it possible i connected the wires wrong? why is it squeeling? and what should it read at the green wire and the stud? thanks in advance guys.:flag:

oh and jricker i won't need the DIY write up for a 3g conversion i read it 1000X's over

Good! then you won't need my help.

I might have asked JR for assistance, having noted that his write-ups were read but that the answer wasn't readily apparent to ya (they are in there but you kinda have to understand what each wire does).

Does your jumped green wire have a stripe of another color on it? There is a solid green wire elsewhere in the charging system but I think you're talkin about a two color wire.

I would advise not to leave this cicuit jumped, as you probably don't have any resistance in the jumper from the power source to the regulator.

Good luck.

check for loose wires in your ignition switch. I had one back out, as well as my MF switch going bad (same time). I blame it on my clutch quadrant install when i moved the wires under the dash around.

blown5.0 which wire is it that goes to the ignition? i have no power at my "I" terminal for the alternator (ignition switch). any guesses anyone? can i just tap into another switched ignition wire to run the alternator?

As suggested in my last post, you do not want to do that. You need a 500 Ohm resistor in the wire at a minimum. It's best to restore the OEM circuit.

well, took my old 3g in for testing and it had a bad diode. i purchased a new one and it came with wiring instructions (kinda weird) anyways, it gave directions for a 2 wire setup the only thing is it bypasses the battery indicator light (oh whelp) everything is charging up and working perfectly. im not getting the full 14 volts but i still havent swapped the pullies out yet. thanks everyone...:flag:

oh and jricker no hard feeling i didn't intend for it to be insulting i just didn't want you to waste your time with posting that particular article. :flag:

No problem. Follow HISSIN50's excellent advice. He has told you the same thing I would have.

Bravo HISSIN50 - good job!!:nice:
