Joys of selling cars

Just had to rant a little bit. I'm sure since you guys own foxbody's you know the going rate +- a few hundred or so. But I've been trying to sell my mustang for a little over a month now, not really in a rush, but I'd like to see it go soon to a good home. But I've had easily 20 emails the last 2 days... Whats the lowest you'll go, bottom price, blah blah. I'm asking $6800 at this point, i'll take less, but i've gotten offers like $3000, $4000, 4500, etc, trade this bike, or this 70's jeep.

The guy that offered $3k was giving me all this stuff about blue book. Blue book doesnt account the 20k you dropped in your car. We all know it's not an investment, but some people aren't even on the same planet. Your thoughts?

Thanks guys for making me not think I'm crazy. I've looked at prices all over and feel like I know the market fairly well. I hate when priorities change in your life... Mortgage, work, music. Leaves much time for much of anything else, GOOSE on the Rocks...

i had the same thing when I sold my car.

I got alot of KBB guys, just be patient, find an enthusiast and all is well.

I used yahoo autos, cars.com, autotrader.com, local stang forums, and even craigslist. Suprisingly it sold to someone who found it on craigslist.

good luck.

I HATE lowballers.

I tried for several months to sell my Notch last year (stupid, I know), and on both Craigslist AND Autotrader, I kept getting TONS of calls ... but, like the above, they were a bunch of retards shooting me offers that were 50% or worse of my asking price. I HATE it when people just EXPECT you to drop your price for no good reason at all - the first words out of their mouth when they call are always "What's the least you'll take for it?" ... and they hadn't even LOOKED at the thing! How friggin' rude is that? It's like, "Hey, I wanna buy your car, but I want you to give it to me for next to nothing, and I don't even have the courtesy to actually see the thing in person before insulting you with some absurdly low offer!" Jeez... :nonono:

Should be pretty well known that those guys that offer you several grand less than what you're selling it for on these cars means you're being hit up by somebody that flips these cars. As a guy that flips them myself, I make it a point not to insult people with offering them flat out retarded offers. If you somebody really needs money then they will sell a car for cheap. I have the same people low ball the hell out of me and quote KBB **** to me. All I do is respond telling them that I flip cars too...no responses back...lol:D

screw the low ballers man. get what you want for the car.

1. there is what you think the car is worth.

2. there is what people feel your car is worth.

3. there is the price you get for the car.

did you try ebay?

Tough to find the right buyer for each modified car.

- For the ones with the money, it's got to be what they want.
- For the ones who appreciate and WANT it, they've got to have the money.

And so on

Not everyone can swing a personal loan, not everyone has a few grand stored away, and you can forget about getting a car loan on old cars like these.

Sweet car though, but if you're gonna call it a clone you might as well get the proper rims & wing ;) Not that I mind, I love the way it looks :nice:

PS - keep it!

Thanks again guys, and mansonozz I always was found of your car, and its been a while since we talked. I used to be into custom stuff with the car, have to do something before someone else does... And yea, I was gonna go all the way with the saleen route. 5 lug conversion with the 18"s, number on the bumper, but I grew out of the saleen wing, I bought the steeda wing, but missed painting it by 2 days.

We all get to that point, wish I could keep it, might regret it later... But hospital bills, mortgage, etc comes first, and I only drive it once a week at this point. I want someone that will get back into it and have fun and enjoy the car. When I get back into the mustang thing its gonna be first gen hopefully next year. 11 years with a foxbody....

That sucks man. Not sure if this will help or anything but just in case, I'd really like to put a spin on things that might be viable that you didn't consider. FWIW...

I'd much sooner sell my other car and get a couple hundred dollar beater so I could keep the Stang...if that's a possible venue to go down at all.

I've driven some real questionable beaters in my day, so I know how it is. It sucks, but as long as it runs and stops well, all you have to do is remember what you have home in the garage to get ya through the day. Up until recently I never spent more than $2000 on a daily car, and half of 'em were under a G. Just older, dependable, decent cars was all I needed.

If you think you'll regret it now I'm sure you will down the road if you let it go. I know how into the car you were/are so I definitely know it's going to hurt rather than if it were 'just' a GT with a few bolt-ons or something else replaceable relatively easily.

edit: Oh, and I think it looks much better w/the current wing than if it had a Saleen one anyway :nice: I'm either way on the rims, Cobra R's always look good and Saleens IMO are hit or miss on a Fox.

edit again: got any large pics w/the doors up in its current trim?

Multiple email accounts FTW!

Some people jack the price up a LOT higher than they will sell it. Several months ago I saw a MAC toolbox on craigslist loaded with tools for $750. A couple days later, it was posted again, saying it had to be sold since he was moving. I sent him 3-4 different emails from different account tossing him different lowball offers. He bit on the lowest of $500. :D

Lowball offers = insults. Seriously, the only people that accept them are either friggin' stupid or sadly desperate. Anyone brazen enough to presume that I am either whenever I sell a car is not someone with whom I want to do business.

The next time I post an ad, I think I'll just state plainly in there, "Lowball offers and/or jokers that use the phrase 'What's your lowest price?' will be laughed at and hung up on." I don't care if that means losing that person's business because, again, any butthole that's got the gall to insult a stranger by insinuating that they're dumb or desperate is not someone with whom I want to be exchanging money/goods - those kinds of people will usually do more than that to try to screw you over, anyway.

mansonozz,
no pics with the doors, I put it back to stock about a year and half ago. Remember the side exhaust with molded skirts, custom fiberglass sub box... also when my car had even more of an identity crisis. Check out these old pics!
