I am buying some 4.10 gears for my 05 Mustang GT auto. The question is about the brand. I can get the Motives through a supplier for $230 with install kit and all. The FRPP gears are going to run me $330 shipped. I have a trustworthy installer so that isn't a problem. Do you think the Motives would be worth the cheaper price? I've heard they may whine a little for a few thousand miles until they wear smooth on the edges. If that's the case, I could live with that and I would much rather spend $230. Thanks for any opinions!

I had the FRPP 4.10 gears installed. The guy who installed them said they were the nicest gears he's ever installed. If you buy the FRPP gears a few months from now you'll have forgot all about the extra hundred bucks they cost you. But if you install the Motive gears you might always be saying "I wish I had bought the Ford gears, I hate that little whine." Just my two cents.

Me and several friends have bought Motive gears in the past and have never had problems from them. I know atleast 2 people that switched from Richmond to Motive because of gear whine and were happy about the switch. Sometime this fall I'll order another set of Motive 4.30's.

Fist of all I have done a lot of research on this and go with FRPP all the way!

This should give you enough info to make a educated decision on which direction to go in :flag:

Yea that's the price I got. It was $299 plus shipping and when I called he said $330 shipped. I wish it was about a $30-$40 difference and I wouldn't mind but $100 right now is quite a bit to me. I'll make up my mind in the next couple of days and decide and let you all know how it comes out. Thanks for all the help!

Turn up the radio is a great solution to slight gear whine. Loud exhaust helps too. It's a muscle car, not a luxury car.

If they're whining, that means there's friction. So while it's easy to mask the sound, and I see your point, it's not good for a gear to whine. A baby whines because it needs something. So do gears.

it is all in the install. if your mechanic knows what he is doing then it wont whine. also you can talk about the "m" and the "a" part numbers all you want. but in my opinion if ford will put their name on a part made by motive, that is good enough for me. i had the 4.10's by motive installed with absoutly no wine. if you want to spend more money on what you dont need, go ahead. i would rather spend the money on a shop that knows what they are doing.

Jeg's has 410A's for 221.99, free shipping. I originally put in pro 5.0 4.30s a few months back, they are the same style as the motive made gears, with step cut on the back of the ring gear. They whined immediately. It didn't bother me at first but started getting MUCH worse about a month ago. So I ordered 410A's and I am whine free now.

BTW, With both gear sets I set the backlash to .009. The Pro 5.0s took what seemed like forever to get right but I finally got it. I Hade a good pattern and they still whined. With the Ford 410A's I used the factory carrier shims that came with the car, and got .009 on the first try!!!

I had 4.10's install week ago with motives gears and no whine at all.I put 500 miles on the car and change fuild out put amsiol in rear, tranny& motor. No noise at at.I think it comes down how the install is.My good friend own a high performance shop and he did everything for me in 1 day..

Alright...I had the motives intalled by the local Ford tech the other day. The tech has been doing this a long long time and I trust him 100%. He said the install wasn't the easiest he's done and he showed me beforehand where the pinion gear was a little rough, but he said he finalliy got it lined up perfect. So I took it out and it does have some whine if you're just crusing and baredly have your foot in the throttle (especially with cruise control on). I could live with it but if you get in the back seat it's really annoying especially above 70mph. I should have gone with the FRPP gears it would have been worth it. I'm going to drive this for a while and if it doesn't get any better I'll probably order the Ford gears. You guys think Motive would do anything about a return on these because of this or probably not?

P.S. The 4.10 gears are awesome! I love the feel of the car now, much more responsive on the low end and third gear pulls really hard all the way through!
