cobra brake impressions

:D well i got the bugs worked out, aka sloppy mechanic, and had a test to try the new cobra brake back and fronts..

I think the largest difference between the cobra brakes and the gt brakes is the brake fade... These brakes are firm and brake on demand with little to no fade ( no i havnt been to autocross course just some dd impressions) .

The stopping distance has increased, but not something to go gaga over.

anyone debating just the fronts, i would do the back as well.. these cars are heavy and need all the stopping power they can get..

although the braking feel and fade is 100% better, its still leaving me thirsty for some 14" rotors and brembos up front :D

i was not impressed at all with the stock cobra brakes. i even had upgraded pads, lines, rotors. i eventually switched to 00r brembos and finally had a real set of brakes.

i think a better upgrade(cost wise) is 99-up front brakes. they are a dime a dozen and seem to actually have more pad area.

They will get better with time. I have the Brembo 4 pistons with the 13" slotted rotors (e.g. 2000 Cobra brakes). They were not real impressive when I first installed them, but now after 100 miles they will pull my eyeballs out. I think adding a larger master cylinder would make them even better.

I weighed my car at the track last weekend and it porked in at 3,500 with me out of it.

that why i went with the ssbc's but the price was right...btw i was gonna go with the cobra's but i could not pass up this deal

I have a set of SSBC 3 piston's with 13" slotted rotors. Im very impressed with how it stops. When Im in my truck I have to remind myself that it does not stop as well as the stang, especially if I take the truck shortly after driving the stang.

id love to get a set of 00 brembos, but the price is rediculous, I will upgrade eventually but right now 1000$ can be better spent on other mods.

You can buy the calipers for ~$675.

They use the same rotors and lines as the cobra brakes.

So if you sold your cobra calipers for ~$200, the upgrade to the 00R calipers isn't *that* terrible

So if 3 piston are good 4 must be better:hail2:

Good to hear. I may just go with new fluid and SS lines on the GT brakes. Then I can get a set of skinnies and not worry about clearance. :nice:
i would look into atleast getting some 99-04 gt/v6 PBR calipers. their dual piston and a lot better than our stock brakes. cheap and they also use the same rotors as our cars

Got a good source for them? Or just get them off a wrecked car? Is it a straight swap? Also if I want to get SS lines would I get them for a 94 or a 99? :D
