sound system

so i wanna get a couple alpine 12's in the cobra with the mach 460 with a 800 watt amp and alpine dvd touchscreen head unit. but they dude at best buy told me that my car has like some internal amp wired to the system that runs a different kind of wires or something so to put subs and an amp in they would have to charge me 1000 bucks to rewire the whole system. does this guy know whats goin on or should i go to like a custom shop instead of best buy.

1000$ for a wire install is CRAZY!!! I have 2-10'' JL in my trunk and I have the MACH 460 sound option and to install mine at the local audio shop I think the total bill was around 110$. Granted yes you are getting a screen put in it should not be anywhere near 1000, that is way way too much. Although, every audio dealer I have talked to has said that the MACH 460 is a ***** to work with and I have been recommended many times to just rip the whole thing out and start over. Hope this helps

I would really like to know where (or how) Best Buy trains their installers.

Real easy job too. Metra makes a intergrated wiring harness that will connect the head unit to the factory wiring and still use the Mach 460 amps. That is if the installer knows what he is doing and connects the remote wire to power the amps up. That alone will take care of the stock speakers to recieve sound.

Run RCA's from the subwoofer-out from behind the head unit to the aftermarket amp in the trunk. Get a amp install kit to power the amp. Connect everything and tune sub box to your own liking.

To do everything neat and custom looking, it will take time, but it can be done.

Ha ha NO!!!!!!!!!! Ask the best buy guy it takes 1000 buck to wire up a (RCA converter) :nice:

Its like 50 bucks for that little thing it piggy backs into the (output side) of the stock amp. And make sure you disconect the dumb feature on the touch screen that only lets you watch movies when the E brakes engaged...........spare the legal implications guys

I'm getting my whole 460 taken out to be replace with alpine type r components and coaxials in back, guy's doing it for about 300 (plus cost of speakers)

You sure he is replaceing the whole system ...... or just the speakers?? There is ALOT of wiring for the Mach 460 system. There is no sense in running new wires to new speakers when speaker wire doesn't go bad. Why bypass amps when you'll get a better sound from them??

i just did this as well on my car. i used the Metra harness for the power for the deck so i didnt have to try to figure out fords cluster**** and this way its fully reversible.

i ran all new wires from the deck to the sides (Alpine type-r's as well) and the rears (alpine coaxials as well) and it sounds ****ing awesome. the mach amps and wiring stuff is still there. i used the stock mach door sail pieces and mounted the tweeter inside.

1000$ to totally rewire the car is a ****ing rip.

I had my cd player/amps/subs installed and had a new box built for the 2 10's for a grand total of $200. That also included the price of the harness that they had to buy. I'm sure your deck has the pre-outs for the amp so all they have to install is the harness for the radio. Go to a private stereo place, not a chain like best buy.

i'm about to go pick up my car from the shop.. hopefully i'm as happy with it as you are

haha I used to be a bay installer at best buy... you know were that 1000 bucks was going to his wallet. they cant rip out all the wiring UNLESS YOU REQUEST IT, haha what a douch bag, it should only be the cost of wiring in the amps to the head unit, the amp wiring and thats it mayby 250 if that ! Go somewere else dont get taken to the cleaners BRO !!!

yeah you also paid an arm and a leg for it.

Don't make the same mistake I made: buy an alarm system for your car!
