Roush Any Saleen Meets this October in Santa Monica/Marina Del Rey area

Guys,

I'm coming to Santa Monica and Vegas ( I expect ) on honeymoon this October :nice:

Are there any meets going on in the area??

And probably more importantly, can anyone recommend a good hotel, I found a few, one is in Marina Del Rey, right in the middle of the marina that looks cool...

Opinions, details and general off topic posts hugely appreciated :)

Man,

If your new wife will let you spend even a second away from you to see some mustangs while on your honeymoon then you hooked a keeper.:)

You could always do the Ritz for a couple of nights in the Marina.

This will help you with good hotels near the water and 3rd street promenade down in Santa Monica.

Even in Santa Monica you are only an hour drive from Saleen in Irvine ( with little traffic on the 405. Unlikely, but you can consider it nice "alone" time with your new bride.

Be sure to check out Saleen Club of America's website for the dates you will be around. Maybe we could come up with a gathering.

There's always the weekly Cars & Coffee meet on Saturdays in Irvine. Lot's of high-end stuff, even a few Mustangs.

Also a weekly show in Northridge called Supercar Sunday. Similar to Cars & Coffee.

The Petersen Museum in Los Angeles is always good as well.

Enjoy the honeymoon!

If being on the beach is your thing, Shutters and Casa Del Mar are two of the best hotels in Santa Monica. They're right on the beach and pricey. Note that there is no beach in the Marina del Rey, although there are beaches a short drive away. I've recommended http://www.channelroadinn.com/ to friends before.

Cars and Coffee in Irvine (very close to the Saleen Store) is unbelievable. Hundreds of exotic cars every week.

I've thought of arranging an informal Saleen meet in Manhattan Beach. Would anyone be interested in meeting up in October early some weekend morning for a meet and cruise???:)

Congratulations!

So far, SOCA SWR has one “official” event scheduled with is the Mustangs on the Bay show in San Diego on Sunday, the 14th. Do you know what dates you are coming yet? We could always plan another informal get-together. The Cars and Coffee suggestion is good. We could do the early morning show, go have breakfast, then check out the Saleen Store, when it opens at 10:00 am.

Santa Monica is very nice but there are other great areas to consider as well. Check out the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach and the Saint Regis in Monarch Beach.

Dennis beat me to it; e.g. the SDMC show @ the Embarcadero the 2nd Sunday in October. I didn't mention it earlier because I assumed you didn't want to stray too far south from your LA location.

The show usually is the 1st Sunday of October but was probably moved back a week this year so it doesn't coincide with the vintage races @ Coronado NAS.

tell me about it :) I hooked her early enough so she's learnt to love the cars :nice:

I didn't realise that was every weekend, I'm sure I can arrange that..

Congratulations!

Damnit... We're getting married on the 14th... we wont be in CA until 15th / 16th... I'm keen on the cars and coffee idea, and I must visit the Saleen store, I think i may bring a piece of the car over with me for Saleen to sign, if he's there...

I was actually looking at huntingdon beach as well as Santa Monica, looks very nice too. Decisions decisions. Still trying to decide if we're going to take a 3 day trip to vegas too, Ive always wanted to stay in the Luxor and go to the canyon....

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, muchly appreciated. I'll check out all the hotels and see what fits in with our trip.

I'll definately swing the cars and coffee idea past Gem and she what she thinks, I'm sure it'll be cool :D she's good like that...

I'll have to check in nearer the time once we're all booked up and try and persuade hertz to give me a vert mustang instead of the miata that a buddy of mine ended up with :notnice: :notnice: :notnice: :notnice:

just a quick update...

my google map is getting FULL of pins of things i'd like to vist and see...

any pointers of places that women seem to like over there? She's not in to shopping at all (WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!) but she does like art/history/architecture... anything in LA over 75 years old and not made of concrete ?? ;)

Any tips greatfully recieved, so far my map looks like a complete car fest... really nedd to space it out with some chick things... Although I am fairly insistent on going to the Saleen store and taking the tour. There's no way I'm hauling my ass all the way accoss the planet to stay 60 miles away from Saleen and not go !..

Here are a few things that come to mind.

To see a world class art collection and opposing architectural styles, check out both the Getty Center and Getty Villa museums.

If she is into Craftsman Architecture, swing by the Gamble House…

… or just stroll the old neighborhoods in Pasadena.

After the Saleen Store visit, if you want to see some early California history, head a little farther south, down the 5 Fwy. to see Mission San Juan Capistrano

Edge,

If you do go to the mission hit up the Cedar Creek Inn for lunch. Your new bride should enjoy it.

If you are there for dinner and don't mind spending a chunk on dinner La Fondu is very very good. It is voted best fine dining and best romantic dining in Orange County and I can vouch for how good it is. My wife and I spent $160 w/o drinks though so be prepared...

Hey guys,

sorry I've not email you both as yet, the house re-model has been keeping me busy to say the least !!

Anyways, it's not long to go now, we leave London in 16 days...

I've had some great resommendations so far, anyone care to chime in with some more?

Has anyone been to Tony's on The Pier? Apparently the sunset view from there is most awesome!! View's aside... what's the place like? Anyone ever eaten there?

Im hoping to get to the Saleen store on the Thursday (day after we land) I think I'll email in advance and see if I can pre book a tour of the facility.

Im building up more pins in my map as I go... Gemma's decided she wants to go to San Francisco too, looks about 7 hours away to me, that's cool... Probably find a hotel there for the night and come back to LA the next day. She did want to go to Dallas too... but after looking at the map she decided against driving, so we may catch an internal flight there for a day or 2.....
