Inner Rocker Panel Problems

Hi Guys

First time restoring my '66 Convert. My mig welding is good along with cutting out rusty ol' sheet metal.

I have one heck of a problem with installing the new Inner Rocker Panel, passenger side.

I order the right ones for my car so that's not the problem.

Let my try to explain just what the heck is going

I slip the new I/R/Panel towards the back of the car where the rear torque box is with no problem. Nothing that I can see is blocking the new I/R/Panel.

What is happening is: Either the back of the Rocker is too HIGH. So I push the back of the Rocker down and the Front of the Rocker goes UP :bang:

When I push the front of the Rocker down, the rear of the Rocker goes Up :bang:

I just can't seem to get the Inner Rocker Panel to sit properly (Evenly) where its suppose to "B"

HELP!

My car is LEVEL & EVEN on its jack stands. The Outter Rocker Panel is not damage either. Just don't know what's happening with this

I gota B missing something, something I'm just not seeing.
Any suggestions fellows ?

Thanks
GOD BLESS YOU ALL :hail2:

So basically your saying that the outer rocker panel has a slight arch to it? I cut mine out recently using sheetmetal. If you can not get the one you bought to fit, is there a way you could cut your own out? I do not know if I am being much help.

This is tough without being there and seeing it, but when this happens, the problem is usually in the rear torque box area.
First I would check to make sure this area is clean, and all old inner rocker is ground off. Where you have your jack stands, may be causing your problem. Did you use a brace in the door area? Is the lower seat pan/plate removed? If you said no to those questions, I would start at the rear of the inner rocker, and start clamping it to the outer rocker. You will need to jack up, or down on the rear torque box, as well as move the lower seat plate. These are two things that can cause your problem, sometimes from putting the jackstands in the wrong place, causing the body to sag.. Jacking up the front inner frame section (this is where the inner part of the front torque boxes is welded) can also help with alignment. You also may find that the outer rocker has spread open, and will need to be squeezed together in spots. Keep us posted with more info, Keep in mind, that even from the factory the rockers weren't always aligned perfectly, good welds are more important.

O
I haven't done this repair (yet) so my post is really of no help :flag:

I'd say either your car has a little sag in it (not uncommon for a 41 year-old vert) or the rocker is a typical re-pop piece. Good luck.

Hey 02MGGT

It doesn't seem to have a sag at the rocker panel. My car is level in both directions.

The new rocker panels are brand new/straight & level ~ I checked 'em.

I must be hitting something I'm not seeing. It causes a SEE SAW effect.
Front goes down and the Rear comes up. Or I push the Rear down and the Front comes up.

I'm going to take a couple of DOUBLE LOOKS AT IT AGAIN :bang:
Plus some PRAYERS :nice:
