Acceptable Dyno #?

I was reading through the dyno thread but couldn't really draw a conclusion since most of the cars had mods.

So, was wondering, what is an acceptable horsepower result on the dyno for a stock S197 GT? My car is being dyno'd as I type this and I'm just curious what to expect, what not to expect.

Help a brutha out :)

Thx

(My guess is 260-280 @ the wheels)

Rated at 300 hp, with 15% drivetrain loss thats 255rwhp, i've seen stocks dyno as high as 270 depends on where you are and the type of dyno, as well as differences in factory tolerances. A good guess is 250-270wrhp. my stock numbers are in the sig:nice:

Hmmm so 255-270 or so. I guess I'll find out in an hour.

Kinda unrelated, does anyone know off-hand what stock a LS1 F-body puts out?

LS1's: On a manual trans, 1998-2000 models 300-310hp.... 2001-2002 models got upgraded intake manifolds and LS6 blocks and make 310-325 stock.

My 2000 with a Borla exhuast and no other mods pulled 310 to the wheels.... at a dyno located in a Mustang shop, no less :) My boss was with me. His 1999 Mustang Cobra convertible pulled 267rwhp just 5 minutes before I ran mine.... in case you were wanting a comparison of how this dyno reads. Here's the graph of my LS1 with only a Borla cat-back:

P.S., I'd love to know the stock numbers you get. I am really strongly considering a 2005+ GT, so I'd like to know how far off I'm gonna be from those LS1 days, heh. I'd love a used 2001-02 LS1 Camaro, but prices are still close to 20k for a 5-6 year old car. I have a real issue with paying that!

Go to LS1tech.com and look in there for a 01-02 LS1. Guarantee you that you can find a nice F-body for 10k. It'll have miles on it (it's 5-6 years old) but I can also tell you that most of the cars for sale on there will blow a stock, and most likely a lightly/moderately modded S197, right out of the water.

Sure, the LS1 Fbodys are fast but theres a reason they stopped production on them. I say to anyone who wants to buy one...enjoy the cheaply made interior, constantly breaking power windows, unreliable A/Cs and a million and one other parts that GM neglected to issue over the entire lifespan of the 4th Gen Fbody.

Well,
** Siemens brand power window motor from Autozone on both doors is a permanent window fix (takes 30 minutes per door, I've done it myself on a '95).
** I actually love the interior... the seating position is absolutely perfect, as are the steering wheel radio buttons on the 2000+ models
** I've never heard of unreliable A/C on any GM vehicle, honestly. GM has the best, coldest A/C in the business. My Colorado has frosty air coming out even when it's 97 degrees outside, as it was here in Houston today. Even my 1995 Z28 with 108,000 miles had frosty, cold, cold, cold A/C. Never had a problem with GM AC on any vehicle other than age-related issues (I have had many old, beat-up, ancient junkboxes)

I will grant you, they neglected the F-body toward the end, but the 1993 model was a revolution that Ford never caught up to... put a Vette motor in a car less than 1/2 the price. Brilliant!

That said, I really don't know whether my next car will be a Mustang or a Camaro.... depends on what I want to spend when the time comes and whether I can find a super clean example for a fair price. I don't want any car that's ever had any body work whatsoever done to it. I've been burned by that twice now (once, buying a car that was previously totalled, but I didn't know it -- second time, I bought a spanking new 2000 Z28, only to have some jack-tool sideswipe me 6 months later!!)

So how about that dyno run????? !!!
