o.k. the question is:
which yields a better head, CNC porting, or porting by hand?

i am getting some heads to go on a built, stroked, 4.6 liter (now 302 c.i.d) Teksid aluminum block.
my ultimate destination is a twin turbo setup, i will be putting some turbo cams (most likely from comp. cams)
my ultimate will be to have a DD tune of about 500-600 hp, and a track tune of about 700-800hp.

is it better to get a set of heads that are
1) CNC ported, or
2) ported by hand, and flow tested before/after, to document the gains.?

more importantly, . . .
3) why

thanks,

Sorry Doc, you most likely have a very unique situation so not many people would have experience with it.

Not to hijack the thread, but have you gotten the rollcage for the vert yet? I have the same problem you had/have.

That depends on who you talk to. As far as hand porting vs. CNC. IMHO, when I do my heads I know someone who is a specialist in hand porting. I would rather have someone hand port it (Bore, weld and bore again, weld again, etc,.) and have the heads flow benched. The thing is you have to trust who you have porting your heads if they're doing it by hand. CNC porting is the most "safe" way to go, but IMO a good hand port will gain you more than a CNC port. Although it may only be worth a few more CFM on a hand port, more CFM is more CFM.
