Does full synth oils = more RWHP

Full synthetic fluids reduce friction in whatever you put them in. This does free things a up a bit. I don't claim to know how much, but I wouldn't think you'd feel it at all in the seat of your pants, but a dyno might show gains.

In school (Farmingdale Univ. auto engineering) we tested synthetic motor oils on engine dynos and found no horsepower gains at all. I agree that they can increase life of parts but I don't believe in power gains. Royal Purple WILL give you 10hp, its formulation creates methane when warmed up in the crank case, that methane flows past piston rings into combustion chamber increasing HP, however this effect is temporary you would be lucky if you got that extra HP for more then a few passes at the track. :flag:

Synthetics reduce heat and friction, that can translate into better mpg and hp. My ranger was getting 18/22 mpg, I went with mobil 1 in the engine and royal purple in the rest of the drive train, tranny, t-case and rear diff. I also did the bama programer at the same time, my mpg went from 18/22 to 22/25. So I'm a believer in synthetics. At my stangs for oil change, it's getting the molbil 1/royal purple treatment. I would say at better mpg, it would have to help hp a tad and for sure add life to parts.

In the 10w-30 & 5w-30 range that engines used to run, the difference was more pronounced. With the 5w-20 that Ford is using now the horsepower differences are minimal. I'd bet less than 1%, or 3hp. The 5w-20 was really designed for low friction operation.

Royal Purple? If I can find some that cheap I'll try it. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic now.

Mobil 1 is not a Full PAO Synthetic oil. it is a Group III but it is one of the best Group III's on the market. they dropped it back from a Group IV because of Manufacture pressure to make the oil compatable with most cars on the street today, this was and Exxon decision when they merged into Exxon/Mobil. I personally think it was a bad Decision but it was a business one, to increase market share.

I know some here have heard about the lawsuit that Mobil had against Castrol, or vise versa, over the definition of a synthetic motor oil and what exactly constituted a synthetic motor oil. The case came out in favor of Castrol, ruling that Castrol could call their "extra refined crude oil' synthetic motor oil. This changed the definition of what could be called a synthetic motor oil.

Shortly afterwards, Mobil 1 came out with a new formula that replaced the Tri-Synthetic formula now called Super-Syn. The oil is now a bit cheaper than before and is is darker and only says "Fully Synthetic" not 100% Synthetic Motor oil on their packaging. It still has the same odor though, so It most likely has some highly refined dyno oil added to it for compatability reasons.

Royal Purple, Redline and AMSOIL are FULL 100% PAO Group IV Synthetic Oils
Mobil 1 is about one Hydro Crack away from 100% it's like 97%

M1 is about the same price as RP so who not use RP? I buy mine from Pep Boys for 6.39 per quart,

Edit* Don't forget, it does not matter what oil you get if the Filter is crap. spend the money on a good filter
WIX, K&N, or Mobil 1 are all good filters that also have anti-siphon valves to keep dirty oil from re-entering the engine

I get five quarts of mobil 1 for 19.95 and I just buy the extra 5 quart and carry over to the next oil change. That's about 25 bucks plus the oil filter for an oil change, and I change it every 3-4000 I hope that's good enough.

 The atomized air fuel mixture doesn't make it past the rings under compression but crank case gases will?! Now that is funny!

I spent a lot of time at BITOG site, from what I have read no one has proved that any mobil 1 syn was group III.
