Need info on GT security system please!

Hey all!

I'm ~this~ close to ordering an '08 GT!

BUT, I need one more bit of info before I call the sales guy back. I'm thinking the security system could be a handy thing to have, given how cool and probably thief-prone the Mustangs are. My wife thinks a security system is going to be an annoying waste of money that does nothing but sound of in parking lots when no one is around and make people shake their heads.

Can someone explain the basic details of how the Mustang security system operates, and how well it works?

The alarm works three ways; it senses when the doors, trunk, and hood are opened, it also has an internal motion sensor and third an inclination detector in case someone tries to jack or tow your ride. It does not go off because of loud music, thunder or fireworks.

I got it on mine and it is nice to have the piece of mind that if it was broken into I might actually know it and be able to do something about it before I had to report it. It's also kind of nice to leave stuff in the trunk with the windows down if you aren't going very far and not going too far so it doesn't get really hot inside.

I will read the manual when I get home and get back too you you can still lock the car with the key and leave the system off if you want, but I don't remember the details of not arming the system or possibly not arming the motion sensors. I never used it because if I left the boxer in the car on my leather interior I would just be asking for trouble.

Dunno! My company didn't mention anything about it when I called for a quote.

Would you believe my wife is actually giving me grief over this thing? It's a $350 option! She wants me to get a stereo upgrade instead for $600! Instead of protecting the car from theft and burglary, she wants to leave it more vulnerable and give the bad guys extra incentive!

Most insurance companies do give you a discount with an alarm.

state farm does not offer a discount, or at leat they did not last time i checked. they said theres really no way to know if you had it armed at the time. with the newer cars and the chipped keys, auto theft is decreased. if someone really wants your car, they will take it no matter what, and they have ways around these features. an alarm will only scare off the casual car theif.

it does provide some piece of mind to the car owner, however. i have had alarms on a few vehicles, and the farthest anyone has ever come to getting anything from me is breaking the window. they never make it past that part.

In these new mustangs it takes a little while to get to the head unit. You have to pretty much remove the entire center console to even get anywhere near the screws that hold in the head unit. Then there are at least 4 screws that hold just the head unit in. If they break the window and the alarm goes off and you can't get there in time then I don't know if any alarm will save you.

And if you want an alarm that will actually be really worthwhile...get Lojack.

One push on the lock door button to lock the doors without arming the alarm/sensor, second push to arm the alarm (the horn will sound once to let you know it's armed).

I would get the alarm to let you know if someone is breaking in. Also, get Lo-Jack if you want peace of mind in case your car is stolen. Most insurance companies give discounts for both additions. Also, like someone said earlier, the PASS system is only so effective. I know people who have had vehicles stolen even with this feature.... Nothing is foolproof but you should do as much as you can afford to protect your purchase.
