Rod & Customs New Rear Coil-Over System

complete bolt in, adjustable ride height from looking at the springs....

$1700....I would consider it. Some testimony from real customers would be my deciding factor.

I have been looking at the 4bar set up from Scotts Hot Rods. the cost is about the same.

the quality of the Heidts unit is not as good, it seems cheap.

I needed the space in the engine bay to fit my 429SCJ engine; had to get rid of the shock towers.

What makes you think it's not as good? Cheap? We ALL know a true 4-link with panhard bar is better than a triangulated 4-link....otherwise GM would not have gone with the 2 trailing arm, panhard bar and torque tube on the 82 Camaro and Ford would not have dropped the trianulated 4-link in favor of the very same design on the 05 Mustang. Plus the square-tube offers much better numbers on vertical loading than round tubeing which is mostly used in applications where there is loading in all directions. But, hey, you have their Mustang-II on the front. And it is your car. BTW, how is that Ackerman on the II? Do you notice your inside front tire making noise before your outside front tire? A LOT sooner?
I do have a question about your choice of engines. Why did you go to all the trouble of putting a 429 in a 67 when you could have had MORE power than you could ever hook-up in a street car with a 428 CJ and ALL the work of how to fit it in the engine bay was already done for you by Ford? Just a question from a 58 year old who's been doing this stuff for 46 years.

I had the engine already.

The engine was from a group my Dad bought back in 1972, it was a brand new 429SCJ engine and 2 extra short blocks. They sat in his shop until I took them. I sold the two blocks to racers and kept the complete engine. I had it rebuilt using the still new crank, pistons, rods, and heads and add SS valves, hardened seats, ported the heads, RPM Air Gap intake, ARP studs & bolts, Pro-System carb, custom roller cam & lifters, and other quality parts. It's being built by a very good engine builder (MME Racing).

I picked up a brand new R&C front end from someone who decided not to use it for $1000 (they go for $2400)

The Heidts unit is not the same quality as the R&C rear coil-over. I've talked to both companies and look at other systems. The rest are way out of my price range for a street car.

If I bought new leaf-spring, good shocks, new spring plates, rear sway bar, and traction bars I've be at almost the same cost.

The heidt unit does not use the same quality components as the R&C one does. R&C uses strong and race purpose parts.

Just look at the different in shock cross bar; Heidt is one bar & R&C doubled up with an inner and outer bard for strength.

But like I said before how R&C treats their customer brings me back. I've had tons of trouble with other vendors.

Can't wait

Thanks for steping up ---It is always hard for the 1st person to make a move--i can't wait---i am waiting for you install and you will influence my decision for buying the unit...... P.s when will you get the unit and when will you install it --

Wow -

You have been busy--the rear coilover looks good--How do you characterize the quality of the coilover?--How robust is the metal piece attached to the rear pumpkin?---looks good can't wait to see it on the road ---to fully know if it has bind as most members here at stangnet say it will have via the 4 link (i quess the orientation of the bars attached to the pumpkin should help?

Thanks Again for your excellent post!!!!

MME Racing? You are definitely going to find out how that Rod & Custom stuff stands up to torque.:)

Any updates on this project. I too have the R and C front end, I've got it clamped into place. All that's left is everything. Question though; how do you like the Flamming river Rack? Anything you'd change if you did it over?
