silver 98 cobra wheels w/ michelin pilot sports

Looks alot better imo, im just trying to get used to it since Im used to seeing my car with the baskets...it handles waaaaay better on these tires...the pilot sports are light years ahead of my old tires, not to mention the stiffer/smaller sidewall now....all i got left is to finally get an alignment

I'm with Joe.

I prefer a Saleen wheel on a Saleen, especially a fox. The only Saleen I have been getting used to with a different wheel set up is with the 05's and up.

Just our opinion though Tim.

FYI, a properly set up foxbody will drive faster around the road course with those ARE wheels and the correct tire combo. The ARE Saleen wheels are the lightest wheel around. Also, your center of gravity is higher now also. You are probably just noticing the newer tires and road feel, and hopefully proper inflation over your old tires on your mesh/basketweaves. I'm only saying that is because you said that it " handles waaaaay better on these tires..."

My 89 that was set up for the roadcourse years ago consistently ran better times with the ARE's and Yokohama 008's ( discontinued tire ) than with the 17" Speedlines and comparable tires. Just a thought.

The difference is a stiff sidewall on a quality tire, verse a bigger and softer sidewall on a not so great tire...so yes it does handle better...its not my imagination. Its not like these rims "scream" cobra...there are no cobra logos...its just a silver 5 spoke wheel, quazi-reminiscent of a magnesium in a way...kind of what drew me to them in the first place

I know some like the stock wheels better, and some people hate them...i only bought the cobras so I could put my saleen wheels up so they dont get ruined...the front passenger is already bent, so I have to send it off to get fixed. My initial plan was to road race on the saleen wheels, but I like the idea of a set of brembos on the car.

This car isnt a trailor queen or a garage queen, its driven every single day in whatever weather comes its way...worrying about replacing an ugly, 16inch 20 yr old rim is something I dont prefer to worry about considering it'll set me back a few hundred bucks minimum. One is already bent and it shakes bad once I hit 50mph...and I also can't afford to wait on a far off rim shop repairing them and mailing them back while I don't have another means of transportation.

Some hate it, some love it...im just glad that if i curb or ruin a wheel...in the end it doesnt matter anymore...i think a clean 5 spoke looks better on a mustang then a set of baskets...so all in all I'm happy...and im the one who has to stare at it everyday lol. And in all honesty...the car doenst look nearly as good in the pics as it does in person...so I expected the reaction to not be completely favorable to even the ones who do like a similar wheel on a fox

Not so sure they don't scream cobra, they may very well be the most overused wheel on a foxbody.
You probably don't spend alot of time in 5.0 talk here, that's where you see them all.

By no means does your car look bad, definetely not what i'm saying, because i do like it, but i do think the rims should "scream" saleen. It's one of the things saleen does right, (other than the wagon wheels).
There is tons of saleen 18 inch replicas on ebay at about $400 a set, not bad.

And i'm with u marcus, my old ARE 16's were crazy light, the 18's definetely slowed the car down in all aspects.
But i ran on 225/50/16's, and 245/45/16's, car was definetely lower on those tires.

BTW, if you do send your bent rim out to get fixed, find and expert, if the outside is heated up too much, and sometimes at all, it will just be a paper weight.
I know from having a company ruin one of my ARE's, i talked to some guy Eric out west who said he could re hoop that style rim, but i don't have the number anymore, he also said the cheapo fix companies wreck alot of aluminum rims.

i dont spend any time on the 5.0 talk...i've never ever seen these wheels on a fox except on the 1 rusted out saleen bart posted...i thought they looked like mini-magnesiums so I would go that route..had no idea they were used that much. I would of pegged the R's for the most used of the 94+ wheels

Newho...i know the ARE's are stupid light, its why im dreading a spindle swap b/c i want to road race and do shows on those wheels. There is a guy here who swears he can fix them..but i've never had luck with local people...i'll probably take them down to jacksonville where my dad lives and search for someone there since they have a ton of wheel places there along with manufacturers like Enkei. Im not in a big rush to get em fixed since I dont plan to road race until next year (this year is aimed at setting up the car suspension/brake wise)...so i keep going back and forth on the spindle crap.

Mark at PAS told me the fox 12inch baer kit will fit behind the saleen wheels, however its just a cobra kit...so im wondering if I cant fab up a bracket, use their rotors, and buy some calipers from ford, and some MM fox to cobra SS brake lines. There is no way that kit can be worth the $1000 baer wants, where you can get a cobra brake kit for $450 new. If anyone has any insight on that...i'd love to hear it

As far as brakes go, the cobra kit is not going to be complete for $450.
You probably get pbr calipers, rotors, and maybe the brake lines.
You still need a Master cylinder, proportianing valve, spindles, and parts to convert the MC from 3 port to 2.
Is that a grand? nope, but still alot more than the $450.
I know this because i did the 94/95 spindle swap, with bullit pbrs (i wanted red with no cobra logo, you know me now, lol).

The baer kit probably makes use of modified fox spindles, comes with it's own MC, PP valve, and all necessary hardware.
Still not worth a grand, but for some people it's better than putting a parts list together.

I also tried putting my 16 inch ARE's on my 13 bullit brakes, heightwise they fit, BUT the caliper hit the spokes, so it would spacers, which i do not like on the front.

Unless you are a metal worker or a machinist, "fabbing" is alot easier said than done.

Honestly, the 94/95 spindle setup is much better than the old fox setup.

The plain PBR set, which are just black but are the same as the bullits and cobras can sometimes be found really cheap a set, like $150.
