Coil overs?

I'm getting a little sick of "hot-rod only" II parts. I mean, if they're going to call it a II front end then the parts should fit on a 74-78 Mustang. Anyways, I was looking for a set of coil-overs for my II. I found some from summit in the range of $380 and was considering it, but there parts fitments says for 1923-54 hot rods. I also couldn't find the spring height, I know most hot-rod springs are only 12" while we have 14" springs.

Anyone running a set of coil-overs with luck?

I didn't realize they would need rebuilt often, there goes that idea, I don't need my suspension to require more maintenance than my motor :). $210 isn't bad for adjustable Koni's. I could get some fox springs (they're more common) and trim those down and these Koni's, that should do me well, oh and find a 1" sway bar.

$400 for rear springs doesn't sound like a hoot, but I bet they would make a world of difference in how the car handles. I wonder if there are any trucks that would have similar sized springs that I could make work. S10's and Rangers should have firmer springs, dunno at this point I guess.

You can do coil overs as long as they are good quality units.

The reason most "mustang II" spec hot rod parts say not for stock Mustang II's is because most of those parts don't fit the stock setup. They either attach differently, or don't clear the stock control arms. It's the Mustang II "design", but not always a bolt in Mustang II replacement. Also, the stock Mustang II lower arm was only made to have the shock bolted to it, not the entire weight of the car via the lower coil over mount. If using stock lower arms, I'd re-enforce them.

The other issue is most of those coil overs are only offered with lower spring rates, made for 1500-2000 lb hot rods. You'd need a very high rate spring for an actual Mustang II.

I was talking to my friend today about spring rates. I didn't realize how different the spring rates are between different cars. He has a few XR4Ti's and they came with 94lb/in front springs stock, he upgraded to 150lb/in springs and it handles awesome. This in comparison to our stock 350lb/in springs which are extreamly soft for our cars. I think I'm just going to get a nice set of adjustable shocks and stiffer springs from a Fox body. That should make me happy, this isn't race car though I want to get it back out to the track after my last trip :(.
