I thought it would be fun to have a contest of sorts. Recently I built a 408 stroker small block Ford engine for my Fairlane. It wasn’t a low buck affair, more middle of the road and what I was thinking was a little guessing game.
A member here helped pick the cam and several of you talked me into running the vert bar lifters. So why not a contest. I put this on a couple of the websites that I get good info from. One of the prizes is about the best car/girl callendars I've ever seen, how's that for motivation?
Guess the corrected HP and TQ and win a prize. The closest person that guesses will get a few cool prizes from my private stash of schwag. In the unlikely event of a tie I will send stuff to both winners. If there are a bunch of ties then the earliest ones win. The amount your off from either number will be added together. This isn’t ‘The Price Is Right’, so you can go over.
Here’s the basic mix:
1975 351W block
Stroked to 408
Eagle cast crank
Forged Rods
Dished SRP forged pistons
10.9 compression - run on 91 octane gas
Comp Magnum roller rockers (alum)
Comp 7.7 inch Magnum push rods
Comp vertical bar roller lifters (recommended by Stangnet)
Edelbrock Victor Jr single-plane intake
Holley 950 cfm carb (73/73 jets)
Comp double roller timing chain
1 ¾ long tube headers
Mallory Unilite distributor
7 quarts of 30w oil in Milodon pan with windage tray
236/240 .555/.576 110LSA Comp hyd roller cam
AFR 205 heads with ti retainers and their “nitrous port”
Lets see.. helpful info:
The AFR heads flowed
308 intake and 243 exhaust at .600
310 intake and 249 exhaust at .700
154 intake and 122 exhaust at .200
Correction factor was 1.098 (was HOT today)
Anyway, just something fun and winners name and website gets in the story. Oh, “blown up” is a valid guess
Oh, the engine was also tested with a RPM Performer and 750 carb, but the guess is for the vic/950 combo. The contest will run until next Wednesday morning California time, lets say 10am PST.
Most of all, have fun…
