wheel spacers

is getting wheel spacers for my gt a bad idea?? i was thinking about getting wheel spacers on the back to widen my stance a little bit... how reliable are they? note: i like tire smoke, will i have problems with them?? thanks

If you get them, I personally would get some quality ones from maximum motorsports, thats something you dont want to skimp out on. And I think its the hub-centric ones that you want to look for. Im sure soemone else can give more personal experience as i've never used them.

I've have 1 inch spacers on my rear tires for a few years with zero problems. As for smoking the tires, I dunno, not really my thing. But I don't think you'd have a problem with them there, either. And they make the car look a lot better, IMO.

I have 1.5 inch hub centric spacers on the back, no problems yet but only about 1000 miles so far. look great, got them on ebay for about $70 and its the same type aluminum as these guys are talking about with the more expensive ones.

now if I were building a 500+ HP car then no, I probly wouldn't trust them very much, but I'm nowhere close to that, nor do I plan on being any time soon.

I road race on 25 mm (1 inch ) H & R Spacers from Maximum Motorsports. I have had 0 issues and the handling is noticeably improved. Just make sure you measure your spacing before you purchase them, and check their sale items section first, as you can save some $$ there.
They are aluminum hubcentric and are well worth the money. I don't believe in skimping on anything connecting your wheels to the car. Even low horsepower cars are capable of reaching 100mph, and a rear wheel departure at that speed is complete disaster.

I have H&R 25mm (1 inch) spacers (from MM) on the rear since 2002, no issues. One of the first mods I did - had to get rid of the dorky tucked-in look (10x worse than the 4x4 look).

I'm weary of using spacers, but if i did they would only be the H&R brand sold by Max motorsports.


Also, as added insurance, upgrade the rear studs to hardened studs. It's cheap insurance.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled about it either. The better solution would be to get wider wheels, but of course that requires a few more bucks. Besides, I always did like the stock bullitt-type wheels.

MM 1/2" spacers (in the front!) with ARP studs. I did this due to the conflict between my new rims and Cobra brakes.
While the guy at the local speed shop said his cheap Mr. Gasket spacers (non-hub) would be just fine, I, like others stated here, don't care to skimp on things that attach the wheels to the car.

I've beat on eibachs for years w/o problems, all of the folks mentioned seem to make quality pieces.

no tucked in look, no broken spacers.

1 inch H&R spacers on the rear of my car for the past 2 years. Drag race once or twice a week every week. Done some lapping. No problems at all to report.

I may also mention that whatever spacers you use... make sure you torque them correctly, and after 1000 miles or so, take your wheels off again and re-torque your spacers again. and do the same with the wheel lugs after that as well.

I'm sure any of the mishaps that people have heard of could/would have been avoided by doing this.

theres alot of people out there that do not follow instructions, and then blame manufacturers for user error.

Any known issues using spacers on an IRS? I'm just worried that it will put additional stress on the linkages. I agree wider wheels is the better fix but I'm afraid I'm stuck with my frpp fr500s

Has anyone used the TC Sportline spacers? They're on ebay for 90 bucks and I'm just wondering if they're quality.
