Hi, I'm looking for some pictures of engines that show the wire routing well. It'd be cool if you could post some up here.

I am installing new wires and wondering where the factory put em, and where you guys have them. I am mostly interested in how the wires are run from the coil, oil temp, water temp, and elec. choke. It seems that the kit I am using gives me enough length to route the wires over the top of the motor by the intake/head. Is this a good idea? Is this the correct location?

Thanks for the help

Yes. The factory engine gauge feed runs from the pigtail at the firewall down the driver side of the intake next to the valve cover. The wires split at the end near the water temp gauge with the oil pressure wire running down in front of the head and the coil wire running past the distributor. There was no electric choke in the factory harness.

Awesome that last picture was very helpful to see that retainer. I'll have to check the catalog later tonight and see if I can find those. My current car doesn't have anything like that on it, but that is no surprise, it is missing a lot of things!

What does "correct" mean? If it is a metal clip designed to hold an electrical wire away from a heat source, who cares who makes it or sells it? Hell, even the concours MCA judges couldn't tell the difference from a Mustang vendor part that was made in China from the same part made in China from your local hardware store who will charge you half as much and no shipping charges.

hey there, are you using the Ez wiring harness by any chance?

What i did was run the wires under the export brace, till it got to the shock tower, run it along the side tower and then in front of the valve cover, behind the power steering pump, pulled out the wire for teh oil sender, then continued to the temp where my heat resistant tubing ended, and then ran the wires for temp sending, and pos and negative coil. Still don't know what to do with teh electric choke wire.

No I am using the less popular(and more expensive!) painless kit. I don't think I have enough wire to route it the way the EZ kit would allow it. If I do route it over the intake I can make my choke connections right out the loom there. I'll see if I can come up with some photos once I route them, and maybe some before.

Here is what I did.
Not pretty from close up but I have seen uglier:

Try to figure out a little better routing for your wires. You have spark plug wires crossing over others and you have the main harness wrapped around the shock tower to cowl brace. I know it takes balls to post pictures of your engine bay because you are going to have Aholes like me criticizing, but I am making suggestions to help you make it run and look better. And yes, where in hell did you get those valve covers? I love them.

Here's mine. This is the factory 3-wire feed (no tach). As mentioned before it runs from the pigtail along the intake, then to the senders and coil. I haven't trimmed up mine yet, still settling on a coil location I like.

"You have spark plug wires crossing over others "

Explain to me how this is possible to resolve without getting a special distributor cap where all the wires are in the cap in the same order that they are on the plugs.

Everyone has spark plug wires crossing over others at some point.
