Tremec trans in 94-95 (also rebuild cost?)

I might be able to score a tremec 5 speed out of a 93 cobra for around $150... problem is the guy says it was ran out of oil and 1st and 2nd are making some god aweful noise above 2k RPM.... so obviously it's gonna need a full rebuild with bearings and probably some hard parts.... Does anyone know what they cost to rebuild (parts alone?)...

annnd how hard would it be to put it in a 95? What kinda mods are we looking at? Crossmember? Driveshaft? Exhaust? He says it comes with a bellhousing... would the fox housing work in a 94-95?

i'm running a tremec 3550 and am using my stock crossmember, aluminum driveshaft w/out a spacer, and the exhaust bolted up fine.

i'm pretty sure the fox bellhousing is different--think you may have to use a fox clutchfork, though. mine came out of a 95 and i got it w/ the fork and bellhousing, so i can't tell you for sure.

Which Tremec are we talking about here??

The '93 Cobra came originally with Borg Warner t-5

So are we talking about:

Post 1997 Tremec T-5
Tremec 3550
Tremec T-56
Tremec TKO
Tremec 3650??

no idea he claims it's an aftermarket tremec...

Well Tremec is a brand name.

It's like saying "I drive a 1992 Ford"

You need to figure out what it is.

More than likely it's a 3550 variant, or a post 1997 Tremec T-5. (more than likely a Z-spec)

Both are WAY different from another so you need to find out

ok it is a 3550, and I snagged it for $120 with bellhousing, fork, B&M ripper shifter and cross member. So even if it's junk I can sell the other stuff and be alright...

The cross member was in a 93, will it work in my 95? It's a 10 spline input, what is the factory T5? Will I need a new PP and or flywheel?

Bringing this one back from the dead, we're getting ready to rebuild the trans and put this all together.

So it sounds like pretty much everything will bolt in except that I need a fox fork for the fox body bellhousing. A side question on the fox bellhousing, will the stock 94-95 flywheel work with this bellhousing as well as the starter? IE is the fox bellhousing tooth count the same as a 94-95?

To answer a few of your questions. I rebuild TR-3550s for $175 plus parts. I think my prices are inline with about every one else's. Everything in that transmission is pretty cheap except the gears. Those gears run about $100 to $200 a piece. So if you end up having to change the gears out, then you are getting close to the price of a new transmission. It takes me about 3 hours to take one of those completely apart and put it back together. You can download the overhaul manual from TTC (Tremec is now known as Transmission Technology Corporation) for free. The overhaul manual has a blow up diagram with part numbers for every single part in the transmission. I've gone as far as ordering the case for the transmission seperately.

To make the transmission work in an SN-95, you will have to use the bellhousing that came with it. You will have to get a Fox clutch fork. The dust cover will not work either. You can leave it off, or get a fox dust cover. The starter, clutch and flywheel will work fine. TR-3550s came with a 10 spline input shaft, but it is real common to upgrade these transmissions to a 26 spline input shaft. If your transmission has a 26 spline input shaft you will have to change the clutch disk. You will have to make your own hangers for the H-pipe, or just leave them off. You will have to drill the holes in the stock cross member slightly forward, because the transmission is shorter. You will also have to get the driveshaft spacer. Steeda sells one.
