Electric Fan for Stock Alternator

I have been driving my 65 to work alot lately & the traffic is really causing the temp to rise. I am fine when driving freeway speeds or even driving on the street. It's being stopped in traffic that I need help in. I have the stock alternator that is the problem, just can't afford to change out the fan & alternator. Looking for an electric fan that I can install on that wouldn't quit running while idle b/c of the stock charging system. I know I can't use the Taurus fan or even Spal, anyone have other fans they use with the stock alternator. I have no other electronics running currently. Right now I have the flex fan type on.

All electric fans pull amperage off your alternator, and that is why it is necessary to upgrade your alternator that was not designed to have to run these fans. If you want to run electric, you are just simply going to have to upgrade your stock alternator. May I suggest a single wire 100 amp one?

So he can have worse idle perfomance than the stock piece?

Those one wire alternators are for a drag cars.

Gaffle the alternator out of the taurus when you get the fan. If money is a real issue figure out when the next half off day is at the local pick-your-part or self service yard. If it ran the fan in the taurus it'll be good enough for your car.

Often times we refer to the alternator with the built in VR as a one wire. I am referring to the three wire with the built in VR. Going this route is the way to get more Amps from the alternator to help support the electric fan's requirements for voltage at idle.

I'll give you that but you answer is unsatsifactory. "One wire" to almost anyone you mention it means one of those garbage alternators that doesn't work from Summit.

He needs an el cheapo small case G3.

I will look for alternator as well then. I did some quick searching & besides the taurus it looks like the 94 GT is a direct fit as well. I don't have a shroud on the radiator, maybe I can try that while I search for an alternator.

The one wire from Summit doesn't work? Any proof in that statement? How does the el cheapo small case G3 differ in quality?

(sigh)

The one wire alternators have horrible idle performance. They won't charge at all until you rev the rotor to 1500 rpm's to excite them, and then they are poor at best at idle. They work fine for a tractor or a forklift, but bad on a car with a big amperage draw at idle.

And for any other user, I'd absolutely go look up and document the tech. There are pages and threads galore if one were inclined to do a Google search for them. But for you, I won't because you haven't been right about anything tech related since you got here. I will point you in the right direction if you care to research them yourself.

On to another subject:

Remember when you called out another user here?

You’d do well not to pick a technical related fight with me. You are just barely worth the time, and I'll make you pack your lunch.

I can’t tell if you need a reading comprehension course or a psychiatrist.

I bought one of these kits back when Summit racing used to stock them. It was easy to upgrade my original alternator with their "105 amp" kit and our tester showed over 120 amps at idle. Back then there were no kits for other alternators so some time with a soldering gun was more feasible than experimenting with pulleys, spacers, brackets, wiring, etc. It's also nice if you want to keep the stock look.

"I can’t tell if you need a reading comprehension course or a psychiatrist." Craig, I don't want to stir up any trouble because we are actually brothers in arms here with working on our classic mustangs. But your assumption that I either need to have a reading comprehension course or a psychiatrist is a really dumb post on your part since you don't know that I have a doctorate degree and I am certainly no a mental patient. On any other forum, that statement would have you banned, because you are belIttleing another member without just cause. It has a lot of names, but you just simply don't do it because of site rules.
Read them before you post .

That rules out the whole learning disablity angle.

And your baseless accusations and abusive tone are OK exactly why?

The next time you tell somebody to bring the tech, put your asbestos underwear on. You'll need 'em kid.

I am going to the mustang shop later today to get a shroud. Hopefully it will do the job. Wonder if I should replace the fan while I'm at it. It's a 4 blade around 17"I see that they have 6 & 7 balde flex fans. Not sure if 2 extra blades will make that much of a difference.

CraigMBA and Soaring,

I am not going to point out one or the other as both have fairly weak interaction skills at the moment.

I do not moderate this forum, but let's assume for a moment that I do. Please keep your comments contained to technical content only and keep your personal bashing to a minimum. If you have issue with the way a member is handing a technical situation then you are most welcome to take it to PMs. Include the mod of record of course, or me, as we are always happy to read personal attacks against member IQs and learning disabilities, it gives us basis for issuing you vacations and bans.

In other words, keep it clean or you will be issued an infraction. When you want to have people listen to the information you are willing to share, it is best done respectfully and with dignity. Calling people out and calling them dumb is uncalled for and against forum rules.

Thank you. If you have questions, refer to the Stangnet TOS located at the top of the forum page http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=685806
or PM me and the moderator of record.

I am being attacked. "You’d do well not to pick a technical related fight with me. You are just barely worth the time, and I'll make you pack your lunch.

What have you done to stop these attacks by members out of control? Just because he and others of his ilk are original members does not give them the right to abuse newer members with statements such as this. I would have taken this to a pm, But you chose to take it here.

Hold up Soaring. This is NOT my forum. I will not and CAN NOT just sawnter in here and start issuing infractions and banning people. Like all things in life, it takes analytical review of BOTH sides.

So, I suggest you voluntarily take the high road as I suggested in the PM. I do not have access to the moderator control panel of this forum. If I did this would be locked and you BOTH would be taking account for your actions.

I am NOT condoning his actions. I told you we were are watching this in the staff forum and to be patient and instead you opt to press the issue in public???? :nonono:

This reminds me of when two siblings get into an argument over something and try to pent one parent against the next. WHAT impact do his comments have on your real life? I am a woman who drives a LS1 TransAm and moderate a Mustang forum. Hence, I have been called everything in the book and some I do not even know. Do I really care? NO, Sir. I know what I know and I am confident in my mechanical and theoretical engineering knowledge enough to just shrug it off. I suggest you do the same until the moderator of record can determine which party is the instigator in this whole drama.
