New Jersey
Hey guys. I'll be registering the new termi soon and i noticed there are no holes in the bumper to install the front license plate. Which is fine with me since it makes the look of the car a lot cleaner... But being in the fine state of New Jersey, obviously both front and rear plates are required...

Any of you jersey owners encounter a problem like this? What did you or would u do if you had the same problem I have at the moment? Anyone been pulled over for not having front plates (ie: I leave them in my window/windshield))?

I just really dont want to drill holes in the beautiful bumper

Kinda dont want to zip tie the licens to the lower part of the bumper either though...would block too much air going to the radiator I think

from what I hear, some people tell me they've never had any problems with not having front license plates on their cars either....some of them said they leave their front license plate in their closet, dont even have it IN their car lol

OK well guess its not a big deal then

MA is as strict on that law too. i put a roush bumper on in may. i didnt have the heart to put a plate on it, so i said f#% it. i was paranoid for a while every time i passed a cop.

i live in an area where i pass cruisers about 50 times a day. i got pulled over just once so far specifically FOR it. i was going 30 in a 35 with my belt on and in 3rd gear so my exhaust was low and i was in traffic. i got pulled over anyways BECAUSE i didnt have the plate. i told the guy i just put the bumper on, and forgot to order the plate bracket. he let me go.

most guys will use the no plate as a reason to pull you over just to check you out, or if you act like an ass to GIVE them a reason to ticket you. once they pull you over, they can run all sorts of stuff. check for a valid license, check to see if you act suspiscous, check for driving with drugs/alcohol. if you have nothing to hide and act accordingly, my guess is they will let you go.

i pretty much just dont care. i paid good money for the bumper, i like how it looks, and i dont cause trouble. i dont know what the fine is, but the only way a plate is going on my bumper is if i get pulled over 5 times a day for it, or a cop comes over and bolts it on himself.

Yeah well my bumper has NO holes in it, and its nice and clean. So *IF* i wanted to put the plate on the front, i would have to drill into the bumper...which i REALLY don't want to do. So I guess i'll test the waters and see how illegal or big of a deal this is around me.

I'm just spitballin' here, but why don't you try driving around for a little while w/o it on. See how long you can go w/o getting pulled, then make a decision.

This is what we decided to do, too. Bought the car in May and couldn't bear to mar the front end .... so, we're waiting until "ticket day" before we put it on! Start watching other cars, you'll probably notice quite a few without front plates.

Since it's a law in NJ, it's only a matter of time before you get stopped for no front license plate and thensome... (meaning if the officer is pissed, he'll find something else to write you up for).

I drove around in Ohio for about a year before I got pulled over the first time.

He got me for doing 80 in a 60 and said "I noticed you don't have a front license plate". I told him I didn't think it was required since I had just moved from Saskatchewan where they don't require a front plate.

He said he was going to let me off for the plate, but give me the ticket for speeding. He handed me the ticket and I started driving away and sure enough.. He ticketed me for both.. :bang:

The second time I was out for a nice cruise through a park. Met a cop going around a curve and we were both going slow like less than 20mph. He turned around and pulled me over JUST for not having a front plate. I told him that I had a special bracket so I didn't have to drill holes, and the bracket just fell off. I got a warning.

I eventually HAD to install a front plate because I had to get my Ohio driver's license. Apparently Canada is so "different" that I had to go through the whole written and road course. So I had to have my car legal for the driver instructor. :bang:

It was funny because I think he knew how stupid it was that we had to do this. He only took me once around the block and did a few turns. I passed with no points taken off.. :rlaugh:

I honestly think you'd be better off with not having the plate in the car or zip tied up beings it's not "secure" to the vehicle. Some reach in break the window and take the plate and put it on their vehicle. If I were you I'd just drive around with the one on the rear and not have it in the front screaming at the passing cop "I know I'm suppose to have this on the front bumper but I decided to just leave in the window so you can watch it as I drive by".

It's up to you but I think when you have it in the window your basically admitting guilt to already knowing it's suppose to be there.

depends on how the cops are around you.i have gotten stopped and ticketed for it numerous times since i bought my car 7 yrs ago and i will not put the plate on.by the way the ticket used to be 44 bucks if anything it may have gone up to 56,but its deff not 100.i guess it all depends on how much you really want it off there.im pretty sure you'll be fine though.

oh yeah and keep the other plate in the trunk, dont put it in the windshield because your pointing out that its not where its supposed to be.if you leave it in the trunk and get stopped just tell them you just recently had the bumper painted and hadnt had a chance to re-install the plate and its in the trunk if they'd like to see it.

Here is the deal, in some towns they are more strict in others, since i live in more suburban/rural area, you stick out like a sore thumb w/o any plate, but I believe people get away with it more in more country like setting in New Jersey. Overall, it really depends on your township.

i bought my car with holes already drilled in it. the guy i bought it from got it from a dealer, where they drilled the holes, for an advertising plate! the cars been in michigan the whole time..where no front plate is required. its a main reason why im going to change the bumper. i wouldnt drill into it.
