i have a 1993 gt m/t .. ive had the car for about a month so i wanted to check out the timing and i noticed the balancer had a slight wobble to it .. is this normal ? i have only 30 k original miles on my car runs great no problems no vibrations .. if its not normal can someone tell me why this would happen on engine with only 30 k miles .. and if there is a problem can i just replace it with a ford racing stock replacement balancer or can the problem be elsewhere? thanks fellas

No it is NOT normal. There should be a nice smooth rotation to the balancer. A stock replacement from Ford, Napa, Schucks, etc etc...would work fine. Its not necessarily mileage that can make a balancer go bad. It is a two piece part with gasket like material between the pieces. Age can cause these to start separating which can cause to to rotate (make your timing marks off) and wobble. Just get a replacement and the puller tool, its not a hard job to do. :nice:

from my expierences stock balancers at idle will always look like they wobble the counterweight creates an illusion at such a low speed you should rev the engine up and check it to see if it is smooth. either way a new balancer is never a bad thing.

Don't get the ford after market balancer. Its just as bad as the stock one. The first one i had only lasted about 2 weeks before it spun, then i took it back and got another one that lasted a month. Spend the money and get a good balancer.

Yeah, verify this first:nice:

Also, does your car have 30k or 130k. I have seen people try to pass cars off like this, when the odometer only has 5 bars to take up - XX,XXX

Mine also looks like it has a slight wobble. Noticed it when i brought the timing up, has 130k on it. Its a 93 as well. All of my 5.0's looked like they wobbled...might just be an illusion. I cant be the judge for youre car though..might want to have someone check it out

my car has 30,365 miles .. heres a bunch of pics i have of it .. there is even one of my balancer and the mileage for any one who cares to dispute it lol j/k .. the whole engine is stock minus the smog pump and just the crank underdrive pully .. thats how i got the car i dont know why he only did the crank pulley .. just noticed the wobble ..
