Anyone using TOYO R888s yet?

i am considering going to TOYO R888 tires with my current 18x9s instead of getting 17x10.5s

anyone running these tires yet? the guy i am talking to about them is the president of radial tire, and he says they are so sticky that i will probably have a hard time breaking them loose. he also says they will last about 15,000 miles of normal street use.

they are like $330 a piece, but that is less than getting 17x10.5 rims and new tires. decent tires for 17x10.5 are still pretty damn expensive.

I'm happy with my Nittos for street duty. Track duty is another question.

i love toyo's they make a decent tire but are pricey... im running proxe's up front... but they dont have my size for the back...

the guy says 305 will be ok on my 18x9s, but it goes against what i thought i knew. but he has been doing this for like 30 years now, so if he tells me something, he is probably right. he also has 295s so it is not like he is just trying to sell me something.

he also said he'd put some on so i can see if i like them ... i think i'll take him up on that.

Wow thats not a drag racing tire is it? Looks very much like a streetable autocross/roadrace tire like my Falken Azenis's. They look like they would be pretty bad in the rain tho...

I would prolly not get those...as they look to give up too much wet weather traction for the street. Instead of going that route I would get some dedicated R-compound slick tires and some seperate street tires. Unless of course you plan on racing those in a DOT aproved class...they you will prolly kick ass. If I was scca autocrossing, I would prolly try those.

the guy says they are really good in the rain too. very high tech.

i think i have to go with the 275s; the numbers are really misleading in this case.

REALLY....I cant imagine they will be very good in the rain. Waht kinda tread depth do they come with like 8/32" . My falkens can get pretty hairy in heavy rain. Take it from someone who knows.

Cool looking tire. I agree with you in that the 305's do not look right. Looks too balloon-ish. I had 275s on 9 inch rims and they looked great.

I have my misgivings about wet traction looking at that tread as well. Only one way to find out though.

Personally I would not want that tire during a heavy down pour. It rains pretty heavy here in SC (like everywhere else in the world) but it looks as if you hit one deep puddle on an uneven patch of road and good luck. If you plan on driving the car much on the road and live in an area where your rainy season is pretty nasty I'd consider a different tire. Not enough channels and depth to channel water away effectively enough for my taste.

Definately a road race type tire. But that tread pattern is cool as hell.
