Newbie with a couple ???'s, and to say Hello

Hello,

Yes I am a newbie to the site.
I belong to other forums for trucks, bikes, sleds etc. But this is my first Mustang forum.

I have had 3 Mustangs in the past, for varrying lengths of time, none were really special, but all 3 were good cars.....after about 5 years now of not having one, I want a new car.
Maybe it the midlife crisis getting close, or wh knows what.
But I want a nice car, that is just mine, not designed for work, or hauling kids, etc.

Never had a convertible before, but really want to get a Mustang GT/ CS convertible.....took one for a test drive last week, and loved it.

I hope to pick one up soon....anything drastically bad about this car I should be aware of?

Say leaking tops, or weak transmission etc.

I plan to drive it about 8 months a year at most, and park it over the winter.
Some road trips in it, and runs to the grocery store, and such.
I want a 5 speed manual, and to leave it largely stock, although some bolt on goodies tend to happen to everything I have ever owned.

I drive quickly, and like good handling, power etc. but do not expect it to be some crazy race car or anything....or to drive it really hard, just do NOT want a gutless family hauler, or the ill handling of so many vehicles on the road today ( especially the econo boxes, and huge SUV's )

Transmissions are fine and all of that. It's a pretty well built car from the factory. Handling blows from the factory though. You can either get the FRPP Handling Pack or you can just do some minor things yourself to help stiffen it up a little bit. Get yourself a CAI and a tune and you'll be happy with it for mods if you want to keep it relatively stock.

For me, the car feels pretty glued down. It could use some improvement, sure. It has excessive nose dive under braking, and bit of body roll in the corners but it is leaps and bounds ahead of many other cars i've driven. Including a stock sn95 stang.

Like Hoboattacker said, get yourself a nice intake + tune and i'm sure you'll be satisfied. My new 07 has been a fantastic car so far with no issues.

Cold Air Induction-you already have one from the factory, but it is not an ideal setup. The aftermarket ones get rid of the air box assembly and utilizes an open air filter. Most are still located in the factory position, but they flow more air better.

A tune is used to reprogram your car's computer for better performance(plugs in under the left hand side of the dash and only takes minutes). You can get a tuner with custom tunes from Brenspeed or Bamachips to name a couple for under $400 and boy are they worth it:hail2: They eliminate the throttle lag these cars have due to the drive by wire system, allow you to run all 87/89/93 octane fuel, allow for gear changes, tires size changes, shift points(for autos), spark advance, neutral and drive maximum RPMs...yada yada yada.
 
I have an '07 Mustang GT Premium Convertable purchased new in April, I already have 15,000 miles. Like you, I have had a number of cars over the past (to many) years, although this is my first Mustang, and it is the most fun to drive of any.

Mine is totally stock (for now) with the 5 speed manual transmission. I will probably add a CAI and Tune in the spring, more for the mileage benefit than for power.

No problems with the top or anything else so far, although the tonneau cover is such a pain to put on and take off, that I reserve that for long trips with the top down.

FWIW: I looked at the Califonia Special, but couldn't see paying the additional cost for the non-functional scoops and add-ons.

I would suggest a complete suspension kit as your first modification the factory suspension is HORRIBLE!!!

Yet it's leaps and bounds better than the previous gen Stangs... I don't find it horrible. The only issue I have is one that may not be easily fixed due to the live axle setup. While in a turn 35 MPH+ and you hit a bump, the rear likes to skip...very unsettling the first few times it happens.

As far as the GT/CS package goes, you don't have to get all the scoops. The hood scoop(which I don't care for)is part of the GT Appearance Package, not the CS Package. I love the way the side scoops look:nice:
