460 in a 67

In 1967, Mustangs came stock with 390s, 427s, and 428s. The 460 is the same block, so it should fit. The parts should be available at your favorite mustang supplier.

The first 3 engines you list are FE big blocks.
The 429 and 460 are '385 series' or 'Lima blocks'.

The Limas are substantially bulkier engines.
They squeeze in where an FE was, but don't use any of the same parts.

My engine was designed for all street RPMs, I gains Max power by 5500 RPMs. It's a stock 429 SCJ with the exception of the cam and roller lifters and rockers. It put out about 520HP and 550lbs of torque. It's not a high RPM engine. It's a low end torque monster. FPA had a reason for the shorties, I forget, I asked him about it. I think it's a fitment issue. Call him and talk to him.

That's pretty stout. what compression? what heads?

Yeah, that's why I say things like shorty headers and single plane intakes don't hurt a thing on such a big engine.

They are considered high rpm parts for the most part, but those BBFs make so much torque that it doesn't phase them. If anything it helps by softening wheel spin and drivetrain shock.

I didn't know the 460 and 390, 427,and 428 were different blocks. I'm sorry.

I think everyone here learns something new everyday.
This is what you learned.
I learned on another forum that the 240 I6 was a truck engine and spawned the 300 I6.
It wasn't what I wanted to hear, but I learned something.
I was always under the impression that the 240 was just another I6 used in Stangs and Falcons.

Nothing to be sorry about. Lots of people make that mistake. Everyone knows about 289-302s and 351s...but after that is like mythology and tribal legends.

:rlaugh:

I once read that when they designed the 429/460 (385 Series) Ford copied the Big Block Chev.

Mine's a Thunderjet block with CJ heads, 11:1 forged pistons, Mech. roller cam and 750 Demon.
