What all would i need parts wise on my car to beat a 2001 trans am (LS1) with a 6spd with a exhaust/intake? I think im pretty good at racing/shifting now, the TA has a novice driver that weighs 250lbs. I know these threads are kind of a run them and find out yourself but i was just wondering what all parts i would be looking at.

Mach 1, 01 cobra, or just about every bolt on imaginable and that may not even be enough, or like said above blower. LS1's are no joke, that said anything can happen on the street. The T/A is prolly pushing 300+ to the wheels.

Lol i think ill use my truck, new build should be 850-900RWHP and 1400+RWTQ. Eventually ill just save up and get the mongoose kit from mph eventually and then use the car. What would the mongoose kit do for me 1/4 mile wise at 5000ft elevation(rough estimate?)

WTF guys I know the ls-1 is strong but I have smoked quite a few of em...
I have a whopping 260ish and 301 ftlbs to the wheels...

With a 3.73 gear and some driving skill I can take a stock SS/WS-6 all day and even a few with slight mods...
So what gives?...lol a blower and or n2o just to beat a T/A?

Well im not saying its not possible with some minor but significant mods but most of the time, your beating the driver and not the car. Or once in a while you do beat the car for some odd reason but in reality our little 4.6 SOHC usually would get killed. I myself have had my run ins with some LS1's and have gotten some victories as well as defeats. Seriously though i have gotten more victories, but then again i am cammed:D

I know stock for stock its not much of a race....

I ran a 13.4x @ 103.xx(not my best ) to a damn near stock ls-1 camaro's [email protected]
All the camaro had was a catback and a k&n... (so he said)
I know there are freak ls-1's that have run in the high 12's stock????? i thought i heard that anyhow????

I say run him for fun and see how bad you get beat, or maybe inch out a lucky win! :)

LS1 this LS1 that, it depends. They respond well to mods yeah, but if the driver isnt super man and the car isnt in top notch shape or not modded then its not that big of a deal if you can drive and have some bolt ons.

Best thing you can do is keep your cool and drive like a naked clown in an ice cream truck is chasing you down the highway and you might have a chance.

Sounds like you were racing an LT1, not an LS1 - they look nearly identical in body styling.

To "beat an ls1" you need more power, plain and simple. Supercharger is gonna best overall option, nitrous if you're cheap. STOCK Ls1 fbody's have been know to put down 300-320rwhp.... That's 60-80hp more than a stock pi GT lol...

yeah man, ive seen some SS camero's do some damage dude, and like some said before, pretty much every possible bolt on, the right tune, sticky tires. i dunno if that'll be enough either because those things are quick off the take off and quicker on the high end. if he has exhaust and filter, thats still a good set-up for him, but if he adds on more, u need to look at the bottle or supercharger/turbo. Id go with a turbo. :)

 thanks, but i know the difference between an Ls-1 f body and an Lt-1...

but hey whatever. what do i know? I'm Just some random idiot with a 5 year old mustang....

I've heard that the stock turbo from my truck can be fabbed to make a DIY single for my car. Id really like to do this(or even put another turbo on since i have access to them for cheap) but dont have enough fab skills i dont think. I just wish i could find someone local that has done it before, kinda curious what everything else would cost. Oh well I have quite a bit of time before i race him, i had knee surgery tuesday to remove some bone, and cartledge, shave my knee cap and put some pins in so i wont be driving the 5spd for 2+ months.
