Planning on going to the track soon in a few weeks when its finally cooled down. I have yet to go with my supercharger and my Nitto DR's. Question is 1st gear is worthless (3.73's), as soon as i tap the gas, it redlines. At the track, if i do a burn out, can i just do a 2nd gear burn out? Or is that really bad on the clutch/tranny. I just dont think i can shift fast enuf from 1st to 2nd in the middle of a burn out without taking it to 7K and risking blowing up the motor.

I'm a little confused, what advantage is there of doing a 2nd gear burnout? If anything you could fry your clutch if you don't do it correctly. Are you guys having trouble holding the pedal light and steady while doing it in 1st?

Ive done first and second gear burnouts on DR's, 2nd gear definatly heats them better... I did this with stock 3.27's at the time so its no problem at all.

Just roll back in the water box, spin the tires over enough so they are wet... roll foward so you arent directly in the water, rev it up and pop the clutch hit the brake and smoke away.

Some people prefere a different method of burnout but I do it the sloppy way. Its really not too much harder on it as long as you get it to spin... if you pansy foot it and it bogs or you ride the clutch, yes it will hurt it.

I also have done several burnouts starting in 1st and shifting to 2nd, no problem with that either... this wasnt at the track though. Just make sure you dont try to powershift it doing so...

So when you do a burn out at the track, are you actually doing a brake stand to where your WOT in 2nd while fully on the brake too?

Or can you just hammer it in 2nd and let it spin off the water to get going & heat up the tires and then back up/forward a bit to the line?

just wet the tires a little..not alot since you will spray it all over the fenderwell and it'll drip back down on your tires. pull forward a little and put your shifter in 2nd.. rev to 4500 or so and dump the clutch grab the brake as quick as you can .. sit there until you see smoke from both tires then ride it out to take the marbles off the tires.. pull up and stage and your done..

with line lok its so easy to do and the car won't hop forward on you and the back end usually stays nice and straight. the wheel speed in 2nd is much better than redlining it in first and easier on the motor as well.

it's really not hard to do a second gear burnout. You hardly need to put any pressure on the brakes to remain stationary.

Just find an empty parking lot and give it a few tries. Not hard at all - just rev it up, drop the clutch and give it gas. Apply just enough brake to keep from moving. Do it in a spot where you aren't concerned about hitting anything, so you can play a bit and figure out how to do it.
