notchiness in t-45 only while moving

its maxed out on the quadrant, its at the end of the teeth. i know i need a new quadrant but i thought it was strange that i couldnt adjust it anymore. thats why i thought it could be something in the cable. i know these suck stock and wasnt trying to say youre wrong. i was just thinking maybe something else like a bad cable was the cause. because of it being at the end of the quadrant itself. whats the deal with that?

The cable can strech like that. most of the time the quadrant can take up the slack...

Sorry I hought you were not doing it right.. :bang: I hope I did not come off as defensive to you or mystanggt, if I did I did not mean too.

BTW have you had a stiff pedal before this happend. Becuase when the shift fork pivot ball goes that can cause a very stiff pedal that can strech the cable.

Try out a few different mustangs if you can't tell anymore ( people tend to get used to a pedal that went stiff over time)

yes, my pedal is very stiff!! i knew that wasnt normal...am i looking at a trans rebuild?

I guess some people don't power shift?

I guess I don't understand the definition of power shift. I thought power shifting was shifting without the clutch ... so would it make a difference about how the clutch was adjusted? My definition is probably wrong. I guess I would consider what you're talking about power clutching, but maybe I'm wrong.

no its shifting without taking your foot off the gas. shifting without the clutch is usually called floatin the gears. at least with semi's...

I think you mean the throw out fork ball. This isn't actually inside the trans, its just inside the bell housing. If you yank the trans it is easy to replace. At least on a T5 it is. It is just threaded into the bell housing and can be unscrewed with the correct size wrench. Not sure about the 3650s and the T45s. I would imagine it is the same. If I were you, I would replace the clutch cable as well as it may have stretched. After market quadrents/firewall adjusters are a niceity I have not experienced so I can't comment as to their worth.

i was going by what svttech said

so this isnt actually inside the trans itself?

so you have replaced the cable before, recently? if so then stiff clutch could be related to a worn pivot ball, or the clutch fork socket.
heat soak could melt the cable housing though, thats another possiblity.

on the T-45, the pivot ball is like $20 from ford and can be replaced once the tranny is off and the clutch fork is removed.
My old pivot ball and fork was extremely worn and to be honest it didnt feel much, if any, stiffer than my new setup, ( same king cobra clutch used too)

no i have never replaced the cable. would just a worn cable cause a stiff pedal and the clutch to not fully disengage? also, if needed, can i replace the pivot ball? or would a shop have to do that?

I don't think the question is your ability to replace the ball stud. I think just about anyone can do that. The real question is, can you remove and reinstall the transmission yourself ?
