What are all the known problems with these cars? I know about the hypereutectic pistons... what other problems plague these cars....cooling, computer etc...

Reason I ask, I am iterested in getting my hands on one and would like to know what to look for and what I'm getting myself into.

I currently have an SSC, but would like to get into a factory supercharged set up. I have experience with superchargers already, just would like to get a Saleen that was originally supercharged.

Thanks

Scott

In other words, common sense stuff that any reliable blower set up needs. I mean, I read some of these posts and it sounds like it's black magic to make these things run properly.

Something like a BA2400 air meter, 42 or larger injector, a good fuel system, and a SCT chip tuned by a reputable tuner like Bob Kurgan or Mike Post, and also a good short block.

I could go on and on. Odd's are if you are looking at a 94-95 factory S351 R-Code, the motor has probably already grenaded.

Listen to Scott. If you simply upgrade the fuel system and get a good tune in it you can drive the crap out of them.

Just like you said, comom sense stuff. You have to remember, supercharging a truck motor and make it reliable was so far out there back then.

Think about it. A 351 motor that makes a ton of torque but does not want to rev gets mated to a Vortech S trim that only starts making good power at high RPM. Recipe for disaster if you ask me and it was.

Just don't cut up a N/A S351 just to add a blower. Please.

Some S351's ran hot. Mostly, 94's. Mine idled like a top and never ran hot. Kinda hit and miss.

All comments above are good. Believe it or not, my SCed 94 S351 came from Saleen with a factory GT radiator! The car actually ran pretty cool most of the time unless you were in major rush hour traffic.

There is a excellent thread on this exact topic on "saleenchat" that several S351 owners are posting to as to their experences with the common engine/fuel/igntiion problems with the 1994-1996 cars. If you are a S351 owner your input is welcome and if you are considering purchase of one of these cars it is worth the reading time.

Thanks "stangnet" for allowing me to post this plug. :nice:
