Clutch kit or not?

Ok, my 03 GT has around 50K on it now. The clutch is starting to grab pretty low, I can probably get around 5K more from it before it will really be bad.

My question is how do I know if I should get just a new clutch disc or a whole new kit?

And ...

Starting cheapest and working my way up, RPM outlet seems to be the cheapest place for an 11" clutch setup, anyone have another place? I am looking for something good and streetable for around 300/330 hp.

First, adjust your clutch. They should be adjusted every 3k miles or so I was told by the dealer. Also, check the quadrant to see if it was broken.

Since you might be looking for a street clutch, look at Centerforce DF or the Spec Stage 3. Those two are very streetable (although stiff when breaking it in) and are quality clutches for some super/turbo/nitrous cars as well.

Also, resurface your flywheel so you get no chatter.

Ok, how do I adjust the clutch?

And the aluminum fly wheel, I don't really think I want that for the street. I have read that the lose of weight, if not compensated for with gears can make the car harder to launch. Any opinions on this?

Correct. The aluminum flywheel because it is so much lighter sacrifices lower end torque. The gain is in the higher rpm's. I lost a little torque off the line but gain alot of torque once in my power band. From say 45-50mph, drop to second and romp on it, you immediately notice a massive difference. Plus the car revs faster. I love it, but my car is set up for autocross and not drag racing.

I agree that in a race the less rotational mass the better. My car is not setup for drag racing, I just need it to get from one stinking red light to another. (To many of them if you ask me).

Still waiting for this clutch adjustment pointer. I though they were "self adjusting" or had a range they worked it. This essentially ment that you could not adjust them. Any help?

They are self adjusting when you pull up on the bottom of the clutch with your toe and push it back down, you will hear it click and it adjusts itself. But make sure the car is off and the tranny is in 1st gear.

and...

Be aware that 50% of the POS clutch adjusting quadrants are defective and do not do anything correctly. Then replace the cable/quadrant with something decent and solve the problem once and for all. :)
