What RPM should my Limiter be at?

I have the mods below and finally have it running well since I started the project. I'm going to be tinkering with some shift settings and stuff and would like to know what I can safely rev to.

Thanks for any recomendations:D

well with the heads/ cams your power range is probably higher in the rpm range...you need to get it dynoed to see where its making peak power..then shift like 500 rpms above that. I would guess you will need to shift above 6k

i have the stage 3 heads with vt stage 2 cams. with the 5 speed my car makes power up to 6250rpm so my limiter is set at 6500rpm. oh and with the set up i had it made 308rwhp and 311rwtq. I am also running the stock bottom end.To make over 400rwhp you need a power adder.

That's what I was saying. He is either underestimating the stock block or over estimating what his mods have given him. Unless he has n2o or a blower that he did'nt list.

I don't think you should take it over 6500-6700. With your mods the engine top end will hold up great, but the bottom end is going to give you trouble. Yeah I know your not making near the 400-450rwhp that everyone tries to stay under on the stock bottom end. However the crank is not going to hold up for long if your thinking about 7-8K

:nice: Yeah...I know I'm not making 400 hp..or even realy close...

I'm saying my stock lower end will determine what rpms I can safely run....As I'm Positive my powerband extends higher than it's capable of handling, making it the current weak link.

so I'd like to hear what some of you with similair set ups are spinning your stock lower end up to?

Based on what is in your two sigs I can't imagine you make peak power much/any higher than this.

no need to dyno....I know with my set up I'll be making power above and beyond what the stock bottom end will do for now....

Maybe I should rephrase by asking what type of rpm's can the bottom end take safely?

:nice:

with the mods listed in your sig you will be FAR from maxing out the bottom end. i would say you will be lucky to break 290 RWHP.

i would go no more than 6600 at the most. i didnt see and aftermarket valve springs on your mod list.

^Its a must with VT stg2 cams and their heads come with springs as well :nice:

Um, set your limiter to 6500RPMs and shift @ 6200-6300...that will keep you pretty safe.

ALSO VERY IMPORTANT...CHECK YOUR OIL WEEKLY! At those RPMs these motors burn the oil and you can go down in a hurry. Just a few quarts low and hello spun bearing :(

Thank's.....that was exactly what I was looking for! and good advise on the oil...I don't usually check but once @ about 1500 miles into an oil change. I haven't had any stangs that have really used any oil before.:nice:

Yea mine didnt burn really anything if I shifted <6K. But if I shifted @ 6200 or so it would use about a quart in 3K miles, maybe a bit more. Sometimes it was closer to 2 I believe, if I was really running it hard. If I took it easy, it really wouldnt use more than 1/2 quart in 3K.

I just said that because some cars burn more than others and I remember a guy spinning a bearing due to being 3 or so quarts low...took 2K if I recall correctly. Even though its good practise to check weekly, once you figure out how much it uses....you can pretty much go from there.
