my t-3 needs a rebuild. I was wondering how hard it is to do it myself or if i shouldnt try it. Where could i get it done and how much should i expect to pay? I have a good ihi but i need the oil return line which is next to impossible to find around here.

It's easy to do, I just don't know how easy it is to do right. I've been told it's easy to get the tolerances out of whack.

My car was smoking, I thought it was my T3 so I rebuilt it and it still smoked, so then I put on a 57 trim that I knew was good (and had professionally balanced) and it smoked after that too. I think it may have been the valve stems but I just don't know

You could give it a shot. Turbos are pretty simple, just be sure to mark where the compressor wheel is on the shaft before you remove it.

It's very easy, I've rebuilt quite a few. You need an in/lb torque wrench for the compressor wheel nut and a pair of really small snap ring pliers. That's all you really need other than common hand tools to rebuild it. Now to actually measure the housing and the shaft to see if they are still within spec is completely different.

Most of the time you can get away with just replacing the cheap parts that come in a rebuild kit. If you have any questions after you get it apart you can always take it to a Diesel ship to have them mic it for you. They would probably do that for a $20 bill before lunch.

cool

i took the turbo off of the 86 t-bird and put that on the stang for now(t3) all the shops i talke dto of course said naw i shoudlnt do it and the cheapest price i got for them to rebuild is 450$ i can get one form advanced auto for 500 or go all out and get a t3-t4 like ive been wanting to do but im a lil short on the funds at the moment. TH t3 of the t-bird has a rebuild tag on it sayin that it was overhauled by garrett factory but i dont know how long ago but hopefully itll last a little bit.

The stang is like a new car with the different turbo on it. Anyone know of any dragstrips around here( richmond va) that are still runnin this late in the year? I never got solid #'s on my car for the 1/4 mile only the 1/8(2.4 60 ft:rolleyes: stock rear, and 9.7 at 76 or so mph. I tweaked it alot since then . ive got a spot thats about1/4 mile on the street:)Track: i know) and itll get up to mid 90's or so on the mph . I wanna know what she runs people are always askin me. Lats time i did 1/4 mile i was runnin 15 flat with a stock rear, slippin clutch, 8 psi, and the timin advanced alot(gt 100 fuel). Im very curious about how fast she is now because if i raced myself back then i know i would walk away from those times lol. thanks for the replies guys later
