Is there alot of quality issue with Saleen? I just bought a used one with 4300 miles and it is falling apart from the Saleen conversion....

Front rotors warped and squeaking (Saleen Brakes and Rotors)
Gauges in dash pod loose (Saleen)
Dash not put on correctly after pod install, squeaking (Saleen)
Rear fasica mounts melted do to Saleen Exhaust Hitting (Saleen)
Body kit color does not match factory paint (Saleen)
Compostie hood does not line up with fenders to high in middle (Saleen)
Clear coat coming of the indside of the Chrome Rims (Saleen poor Coatings)
Cheap fender badges wore out from weather (Saleen)

List goes on and it is a Serialized Saleen and has not been touched...

My dealer will fix these issues or send it back to Saleen to be corrected but I find this car to be a joke when it come to quality for the price...

Sorry to hear that.... I know that I'd be PISSED if I paid that much for a car and had those type of simple problems.

Lets just hope that the engine mods were paid a bit more attention to than the rest of it.

Best of luck with it all.... at least they are fixing it. Just out of curiosity, do you have lemon laws in your state? Might be something to look into if everything is not repaired correctly....

Back in 2005 I got the chance to buy a brand new mustang and was able to decide between Roush and Saleen. I'm a bigger fan of Roush but the Saleens look slick. Went with the Roush because the dealer I delt with had nothing good to say about the Saleen models. They had nothing but problems coming back at them and decided to drop Saleen all together. I didn't ask about the issues but from what I've just read, I don't blame them. Good luck, and hope everything works out.

What is sad is I have a 03 Lingenfelter Z06 450RWHP and I always thought the quality of that car was so so.....

I can pick this Saleen to pieces about things not done right or half ass in my opinion and my Vette now seems perfect....

These things listed in my post are what I found after having the car for 2 days, I am afriad if I keep digging what will I find....

I now realize the best way to do a Mustang is to do it yourself, I should have bought a stock GT, supercharged it, and did racecraft suspension myself....

Ya that's what you should have done, built your own! Would have cost you a lot less!

BTW.....Burn that Chevy while your at it!!!!:flame: :chair:

The local Saleen/Roush dealer in my area and also a board sponsor, has made similar comments about the Saleen, and they have stopped carrying them. The saleman was very honest about the quality coming from them and the parts guy said they were impossible to deal with to get parts. Seems that after Steve stopped being a part of the day to day stuff it all went down hill. i know he jsut "offically" retired but from what i heard he hasnt really been involved for a couple of years. A buddy of mine owns a body shop here in town and put a full Saleen kit on about a year ago and said thay had to spend 40 hours sanding to make it look DECENT. i will quote here "if my name was Steve Saleen and my name was on crap like that i would fire somebody, even if it was myself"

You're not the first S197 Saleen owner I have heard complain about quality. Saleen used to be a smaller company, producing a smaller amount of cars, therefore quality control was much better. Now they mass produce them, and are thrown together on a assembly line. But, Roush does the same thing. But I rarely see a Roush or talk to a fellow owner with issues from Roush parts and add-ons. The only issues I have had with mine are all Ford related issues. Best of luck getting everything fixed.

Thanks, I thought I was buying a quality conversion, I got it for a fair price so I did not break the bank since it was used...

I guess I will give it the perfection touch and turn around and sell it, there is no major problems that can't be addressed, it is just upseting when it only has 5200 miles on it.... I am used to Ford issues that I can handle, but to put both into a package is a mess...

Well I feel for ya. I know a couple of Saleen owners around here that have showed me issues with their cars, mostly fit and finish type stuff. Saleen add-on parts not fitting tight, not even with body lines, poor paint, etc. Hope you get it all worked out. As much as I love the look of my Roush, if I could do it again I would have bought a base GT and modded it myself. Mine is a S1, so it's just asthetics, no performance mods.

Well I have both and the are both are putting about 450 to the ground with mods...

The Vette will kick the **** out of the Mustang, but the Mustang is more forgiving on the road...

One, your comparing a $60k Vette with a $25k Mustang, which does very well for a under $30k car! Plus the Stang weigh more and has less HP....no comparison what so ever!!!! So :Zip2:

Two, Why are you even brining up a Vette on a Stang forum???

'C', your probably one of those guys who put his car in storage to soon and cries when it's nice out!!! :D

Finally! I bet you work for Ford and think driving a Vette (Hillbilly Ferrari) is cool!!!!!!!!

JB :rlaugh:

Hmmmmmmm............... Not sure if I am feeling this. :nonono:

One - he is comparing two vehicles based on the branding and perceived quality that comes with purchasing a branded conversion.

Two - he is certainly welcome to bring a Vette into this comparison. I could careless if it is on a Porsche forum, a LS1 forum or a Mustang forum. He is a member here and he asked a legitimate question concerning a branded conversion.

What he does with his vehicle is his business. Your third comment is a blatant flame and I should issue you an infraction for that one.

Finally - you come up with another intelligent reply like this, I'll ban you.

Are we clear?

Jenns01TA - Sorry you saw this before dheller1 did......he is a friend of mine and he didn't know my screen name until now. That's why I put my initals at the end...so he would know. I'm just busting his b%lls like we do to each other all the time.

Good to know froman. Thanks for letting me know. Understood.

Driving a LS1 TA and moderating a Mustang forum I get my invisible "balls" busted all the time. It's all good. Have fun!
