2000 GT gear grind from 1st to 2nd.

Ugh I cant wait to get my tranny fixed ..it has an issue with grinding when going from 1st to 2nd .. (2000 GT w/ 60k miles) I dunno how but I raced another GT tonight ,it had the same body style as mine so not sure which year exactly ..But I still won by a car length even tho I grinded for a good 3 seconds before getting it into 2nd gear lol (it was the worst grinding session ive had with it so far)..talk about embarrassing! A girl in the other cars passenger seat was laughing as we slowed down.. I felt like such a newbie although it wasnt my fault

Is this a common failure with this tranny or did the person who owned it before me just not know how to drive it? Ive only had the car for 2 months..its been doing it since I bought it (it only happens when racing / attempting to shift fast). It never grinds from 3rd to 4th / 4th to 5th etc.

Good thing I bought the extended warranty.

Sorry if this post is sort of useless ..I just needed to vent / rant.

#1 change fluid and see if that helps

#2....check clutch for full disengagement

#3....replace blocker rings on 1-2 synchro (aka rebuild)

same thing happened to me yesterday too! although i wasnt racing it was still the mis-shift from hell. my problem is a stretched out clutch cable, locks me out of high rpm shifts. might also look at your quadrant.

deff do the listed above but it is also a common problem,2000 i beleive is still t45 and not the tremec. mine did that when i first got it,bent shift fork.

Aftermarket shifters help the 1-2 shift grind

I had to have 2 transmissions built for my 98 cobra and 1 for an 04 GT and everytime it was bent shift forks. But in my 88GT it was just the syncros. Same thing was happening, Either way be glad you bought the warranty!

You forgot the option #4 - the hell with T-45. Replace it with TKO
