Joining the S197 crowd (lots of pics)

Hey guys I'm coming over here from the new edge world. Just picked up an 05 Mustang GT the other day, to replace my totaled 04 GT. Its a long story, but an interesting one, so here's an abbreviated history of my old car, and my new one.

Here's some pics of her in her prime....363 rwhp, vortech v2sq, O/R H, magnapacks, eibach springs, hypercoated FR500s, etc....

and then...............

I had suspected that I blew a piston ring, after some hard driving....so i was doing a compression test on her, and long story short, got a fuel leak, it caught on fire....and the rest was history....

So after about a month of dealing with my insurance company, I finally got some money, and they were very very very kind to me. I actually got almost all my money back from my mods even!!! So with that money, I went an picked up this black 05 GT deluxe. manual, 16k miles. I love it!! Here are some pics.

So I right away tried putting on my FR500s, from my 04, to see how they'd look. The offset is all wrong, and they stick out too far, so i think i'm going to get some shelby gt500 wheels, what do you think, do they stick out too far?

My plan for the very near future....springs, O/R H pipe, and shelby gt500 wheels
and sometime before the summer....either a vortech or KB blower, roush window louvers and hood scoop, and other things

I remember seeing pictures of your car. That's crazy. Welcome to the dark side :nice: The wheels do stick out a bit, but I think the larger problem is the tire size. Because the tire size was set up for a SN95 and not S197, changing to those wheels actually increased your wheel gap. If the tires were right, they wouldn't be so bad. But they still do stick out. American Muscle sells FR500s with the correct offset. I love FR500's and plan on getting some in anthricite for my torch red one.

Sorry about your old car, it was a beaut. Your new one is nice though. Go with a wider rear with the fr500's and it should look pretty tight. If you decide the keep them on, get some 3M clear for the rockers as they'll get chipped up pretty good.

Congrats on the new car! Hope to see some of your future mods, as I'm sure they'll be nice.

That being said, I can't believe you got a picture of the fire of your old one. If that happened to me, I don't think I'd be in the frame of mind to grab my camera... I'd be peeing on the hood, or running around looking for bottles of water, in any kind of futile attempt at putting it out. Priceless shot though!:nice:

Too bad for your former Stang, but congrats on the S197 and welcome here:D The front wheel is all wrong, but the back one seems ok. I agree that you'd be better off getting the GT500s with the correct back spacing.

I agree with Kooldawg. The rear wheels are perfect but the fronts are a little off. I would lower her first and she how she looks after that and make a final decision on the wheels. You probably have the largest wheel gap I've ever seen on a S197. It would be a shame to get rid of them they are real nice and both your cars are /were sweet. Keep us updated on what you do.

My new plan is to keep the FR500s, and lower the car, and get bigger tires. I can save a lot of money doing that. I was first planning on getting the eibach pro-kit, because thats what i had on my 04, and loved it. However, i'm now thinking of getting the sportlines, to get rid of more of that hideous wheel gap. I'm looking at getting 255/45-18 for the front, and 275/40-18 for the rear. Unless my math is wrong, i think those are almost exactly the same height as the stock ones on there now.

Those are perfect size to remain very close to stock tire height. The rear will be about .5" shorter, but it will hardly be noticeable when lowered.

The rear wheels look great but I agree they need the correct size tire to narrow the gap. Perhaps you can change just the front ones to the 45mm offset if you can find the same manufacturer.

So as I was scrolling down, "Wow..... wow..... nice..... why would he?....... oh shi+!! Glad the greenery didn't burn down.

Looking forward to seeing the mods. Welcome to S197!

I got to ask...did you run get the camera before or after you dialed the fire department...:D

p.s. that looks like a movie screenshot.

I knew that question would come up, lol. As ironic as it sounds....while it was burning, (and after i called the fire dept), some guy just happened to be riding his bike through the parking lot, and he just so happened to have a digital SLR camera in his backpack, lol. What are the chances!! So of course he took quite a few epic pictures.
