T-5Z???

If you are lookin at this trans for your DSS 331 blown car....i think you should look elsewhere for something tougher. The T-5Z is basically a 93 cobra T-5 with a longer 2.95 first and a slightly longer .63 5th. The input and output shaft diameters are the same. I think the gear cluster is hardened and it has a steel bearing retainer. but i believe the trans is still only rated a 330 350 ft-lbs. They claim a 450hp rating if you dont race it....so that means nothing.

I would look into an Astro or Gforce T-5...or you need to look at the TKOs. They are the only trans that will really hold up to some abuse behind a 450rwhp car.
 
Both the astro and the G-force are in the stock t-5 case...they just feature larger diameter shafts and larger/more robust gears. You WILL need a different clutch as the stocker will not match up with the astro/g-force input shaft. But the crossmember and bellhousing should work as stock.

I think Im going to do that. I was looking at both of them and you get a discount of giving them your old core. any of the two you recomend as in price and performace return, reliability, etc...?
 
I just built the A5 using Astro's gearset,the gears are very stout and will stand up to much more abuse than a stock T5 ever will. Be prepared to spend around $1100 just for the gearset alone. This is alot intially but in the long run a very good investment.My combo should be good for 550-600 RWHP,single turbo running 15 PSI of boost.
