hello guys i have a 95gt with the aode it was rebuilt about 4 years ago with shift kit i think with more or different bands?
The problem is when in high gear and overdrive it stops pulling the engine will rev up like it is in neutral until a higher rpm and then pulls again. but still not at lower rpms the only thing i found to get it to be ok is to pull it down in second back to drive and its fine
has anyone had this problem or might no what it is.
thanks

I had the same problem with my 94. Be driving down the road and it was like it hit neutral. Turns out it was just the TR (transmission range) sensor on the driver's side of the tranny. Something like $30 at the parts store and 15 minutes to change. Try that first.

Problem fixed

hey guys i want to say thanks for responding to the post. the problem was the transmission range sensor or also the mpls sensor every place called it one of the two but that is what it was.
thanks again

tr sensor

i found that the ford garage could get them but they were around 100 bucks i no a guy that has a garage that got it for me it was like 60 from him. there is a guy that sells ford transmission parts on ebay that said hey could get them not sure of name but i can look for it if you cant find him. if you have any questions just let me no

Thanks....another AODE Fixed

I've been following this thread because my 94 GT with 78,000 miles has been having a similiar problem. During hot days at driving speed, it would drop out of overdrive to neutral and engine would rev then a split second later it would drop back into overdrive. It was driving me crazy and I was convinced that the transmission was on the way to failure.

I picked up the sensor this past Friday at the local Autozone and installed it. I cannot believe the difference this one sensor change made! The entire shifting characteristic of the transmission has changed for the better and no more problems with it dropping out of overdrive!

Best $30 I've spent on the stang in a while. :nice:

Holy thread back from the dead Batman!

But the original poster is describing the EXACT problem I have with my AODE. It drops to neutral when accelerating hard while in Overdrive, never any other gear. I actually have a spare MLPS sensor around; I'll have to install it and see if the problem goes away.

I did think it was strange that Ford would install a tranny that always slipped out of gear in overdrove.

i dont have a link or anything do you have a auto parts store they should be able to get it
i also had problems later not even wanting to work and there is a white bulkhead on the passanger side that always had fluid on it when i pulled the plug out it is a wiring harness in side the tranny and the fliud shorts in out so if all other dont fix it try that

That white plug is the connection to the wiring harness on the inside. The inner harness isn't supposed to have fluid in it, but it does sometimes. Ford supposedly has an adapter that will help fix that problem, but it's been long discontinued. :(

The MLPS sensor for the AODE is also known as a Neutral Safety Switch. This is the name of the sensor on a manual transmission, but people use it for both.
