I am a noob!

My sargent in the air force had a 74 pinto run about with a 302 4-speed. That car would scoot, it was a good dependable daily driver and still very fun. It was a stock 4 barrel 302 with duals and even at that traction was scares, but that made it fun.

Yea that burgundy car is inspirational, I got most of my pic saves from here so I'm betting it's a members car here. If so they could tell you the color they used and brand of paint if you could find out who it is.

Your one post asked about interiors, I recently saw a post in tech about interiors and how a new black carpet faded out in one guys car that he only had out in daylight about 30 times for shows. Don't know any good sources for interiors but sounds like you'll wanna do some research there.

I found out recently here as well that to redo the headliner the front and rear glass need to come out first, these Ford engineers in the 60s were the "noobs" when I look over their designs and work on certain areas!:rlaugh: My interior is new w/ exception of headliner when I bought it, now I know why.

You'll probably get asked what they want for the other fastbacks once people get back from vacation here. I'd be interested in one myself but I'm at 4 vehicles right now and at least two gotta go by spring (the Mustang is stayin):nice:

Thanks for the heads up on the headliner (bad pun there...). I intend on getting the shell sandblasted so everything will be coming out anyways. I look forward to checking out Mustangs at car shows next year to really pay attention to details like this as I don't have a point of reference right now.

The fastbacks have bids on them right now, I believe something like $4000 for the 3 of them.

Sounds like ur headed in the right direction w/ the sand blast for starters, I never did a ground up resto but you should find all the answers you'll need here to do it right.

I'm really resisting the temptation right now to ask the location of that yard, I'm in N.Y. and could make a drive there to see them. Thankfully I've got trans problems w/ my Silverado (not really that thankfull:rlaugh: ) or I'd probably take a run up w/ my brother to check them out for around that price.
That and the Stang needs trans work, my FireBird needs a rear axle bearing and my beater van has 196K miles so kinda stuck close to home w/ nothing but headaches to drive for now:bang:

Gonna talk this over w/ a few people here tonight and see if anyone might be interested in partnering possibly on them for resale here. I just got my accident settlement finally this month and was hoping to keep some of it:rlaugh:

Made some phone calls and asked my GFs Dad tonight about possibly checking these cars out but no ones interested and I realize I got my hands full right now as it is.
Would have been fun though to take a drive up there to check out what they've got.
I would think if that 64 1/2 vert is restorable it's worth a few $$$$.

Thanks for postin that link.

yeah, burgendy is a hot color. a guy in my area has a 67 GT-A thats burgendy.

interior, i love the black, and i drive mine to and from school, and i haven;t had any fading yet, i think that its dependant on the product you use. another choice would be a tan-ish color. that would look nice.

STUPID HEADLINERS!! lol i need to redo mine yet :)

also, any engine plans? what is the engine, 289?? do you plan on headers, intake, 4 bbl, blower? :)

really are you going for a slightly modified original or a resto-mod??

can't wait to see some progress pics come spring!

I still haven't decided about the engine yet, if it isn't grenaded (I suspect it wasn't abused, but who knows...) I'll rebuild it, thinking about getting better flowing heads for starters. Once upon a time I had considered the 302 fuelie swap, but since feeling the difference between a carbed motor (even just in my Pinto) and the fuel injected, I have to say the idea of a carb isn't too far off now. I'm not totally adventurous like some of you guys and will probably stick with the 2bbl at this point. I'd like to see how original I can keep the main components of the car, but with a few mods. Obviously a T-5 is needed (that makes 3 that we've gotta find now.. gonna know these trannies like the back of my hand when we're done!) can't stand anything automatic :S

Disc brakes on the front are definitely happening, I've already got spindles from a Monarch (a nice little $10 grab woohoo I love having a good wrecking yard guy). Also adding power brakes, this car already has power steering, so definitely rebuilding that system as well.

Upgrading the seatbelts for sure, I just can't decide between a 2 tone pony interior or a standard black one though... I just don't like the fake wood stuff, but a genuine wood steering wheel would be nice too.

I just a really nice driver with a few modern conveniences, but throaty enough to turn some heads when I step on it ;)

:) lol, this may seem like alot of questions, but what's the rear gears in it??

a two tone, if done right would look cool.... well if you want a little Umph, why not a 4 bbl??

also, exhaust? probally 2.5 with something like flowmaster's?? ive got the round 40's on mine and I love em.

Tires?? lol :) had enough yet :)

It looked like they just had caps on it, so are you planning on getting something like TTD's or some steelie style original rims??

my advice, write up a list of everything that you WANT the car to have. What would make it a perfect car in your mind. Then you don't have to get everything all at once, but it will always be there, incase another good grab comes along!

it's got 2.80 in the rear, and I think I've decided to go with the original interior. Something about those two toned interiors that just make them pop. A 4bbl isn't out of the question, is there a major difference in mpg? (sad that I have to consider that, but at $1.03/litre it adds up fast)

Exhaust is something I haven't even considered as of yet, I think I'll tour some shows next year and see if I can get some other mustang nuts to help a gal out and start their car for me ;) Once I hear something close to what I like, I'll look into it more. Never was much fan of flowmasters, I found they sounded too hollow, but I've really only heard them on fox bodies. I'm looking for something really deep and rumbling.

Have you got a vid of your car with them on? I'd like to find a site with some examples.

Tires, not too sure, something meaty, not too tall. I want the car to look low and handle nicely.

No steelies for me, I love the torque thrust look.

video, I might work on that, also, it depends if it was a 6 or 8, BIG difference!!

TTD's? you might want to take a look at this:

that is my car, the tires are P225/70R14 rear and P205/70R14 in the front

you can change those to something like 275/50 or /60 if you want a little fatter tire.
