Flowmaster axleback sound okay

I have the American Thunder's on mine also and I'm impressed. Mine weren't much louder than stock when I first put them on, but they got louder as they got broken in. I also haven't had any of the rattling or problems with broken baffles that other Flowmaster owners complain about.

They will sound better as you drive more, mine didn't sound much louder than stock after I put them on but a few months of driving and it sounded like a beast. Or if you don't want to wait you could always throw on some lt's and an or h to match and it will sound incredible :D

Flowmaster American Thunder

I've had my Flowmaster American Thunders since the day after I took delivery in March 2007. I don't notice them being any louder than the day I bought them. They sound great though - Nice, mellow, and deep.

I had the shop weld them in rather than use the clamps. I don't plan on any drivetrain mods for about 5 years. I've had zero problems with them: no exhaust gases in the cockpit and no rattling.

Also, there is no annoying drone. Just a moderate interior increase in the sound of the engine/exhaust. Exactly what I was looking for in an axle-back system.

:nice:

I'm a novice when it comes to aftermarket. Own an '06 GT premium convert, green. Interested in a more beefed-up sound; I gather the Flowmaster American Thunder is a good, fairly economical way to go? If so, does it matter who installs them? I am considering G&K Muffler in Marietta, GA thx

IMHO, any muffler shop that's been in business for a while would be able to do the job right. I don't do any work on my car; I just watch the pro's do it. The American Thunder Axle Back system looks like a standard muffler replacement job. There are even several posts on how to replace an Axle Back system on a few forums.

The only thing I had done extra is to have my shop weld the mufflers in instead of just using the supplied clamps that come with the kit. Some people complained of exhaust gases getting into the interior, and they said they were told it was because of a bad seal at the joint where the Axle Backs connect to the stock exhaust.

Anyway, my shop did the job in 1.5 hours (between) the other jobs they had. I couldn't be happier with the Flowmaster Kit.

Got an 05 GT vert here, ordered the Flows and had them installed at the Midas shop on Johnson Ferry Rd. in Marietta, very happy with the results.
