Nice. Do you know if they are going to do anything with the burnout box, staging area, and 60'?
I don't know, but I'll ask Dan since he was down there scoping things out. I know that in addition to reconfiguring 5-6-7 they're repaving the whole track, but I'm not sure if that includes any off-track surfaces, or even if it includes the extension of the front straight where the dragstrip start is.

Hmmm, 06 STI vs '08 Vette...with you driving, which would win:D

What I have found out suggests that the concrete at the beginning of the drag strip is untouched. The staging area and paddock are also untouched. The track surface itself is being replaced. In the case of the front and back straights, just the upper half has been ground off and replaced, since those were apparently roadbeds already from the days of Vanport City. The turns between the straights have been completely removed and roadbeds have been laid down. Sounds like it's going to be a much higher quality surface than before. No more sinkholes, concrete patches, or oil slicks :D.

Sounds like everyone needs to head out to the christmas lights this year and check it out. The track looks good, too bad they didnt pave the parking lot and what not but baby steps you know. baby steps. Maybe the city will keep putting money into the track every year, its seems to get used more now that it did a few years ago. Could just be me though. Anyway it looks kick ass, should be fun to watch racing this year.

Given that they've lost a couple big name events in the recent past, I'll be happy if they just keep the track open at all. It would be nice if they could win back some of what they lost, but I'm not counting on that happening anytime soon.

well i looked at the champ car home page and they have a date for july 25-27 2008 so all is not lost.

From what Pete has told me in our heads up meetings, the big events don't bring in alot of money to the track itself as they are just renting it for the event. They make just almost as much on drag racing street legals and training rentals.
The big events do bring a lot more revinue to the community though.

That's good info, thanks! :nice: Whatever it takes to keep the track open, I'm all for it. With any luck, dumping all this money into the surface will keep them from having ideas of closing it anytime soon.

Yes, they definitely need to bring back the ALMS. The track can't survive on (or depend on) Champ Car and the Historic Races all the time for revenue. It's a good thing they have the weekly drags to bring in some money.
