5-lug conversion

With the two left side axles, the same width will be retained as stock, and the stance will also be what you had before the swap. If you don't go with the SN95 front, you will be limited when it comes to using the dustcaps for the wheels you choose on the front.

Thanks alot Hickfied for the info. I love the look of the welds for his car but he's more interested in the Mach 1 rim. Anyone out there have the Ranger front rotor conversion running production rims like '03 cobras, 10th anniversary, bullitts? I realize it's the "wrong" way to perform a 5 lug conversion but he's not interested in the extra braking power only getting a better selection of rims for his car. Thanks in advance.

I've heard mixed reviews from people using the "SVO" 5-lug rotor for the 87-93 V8 spindle as well as the "Ranger" 5-lug rotor for 79-86 V8 cars and 87-93 4cyl but so far I haven't been able to prove either side. Clearly in some combinations the dust cap is interfering with the rim. I remember a thread that attempted to prove working combinations but have not been able to find it now for reference. I get the impression i'm going to have to purchase a Ranger rotor/dust cap and SVO rotor/dust cap and find someone with a Mach 1 to find out for myself. The problem is for some of us finding 94-95 assemblies is impractical or difficult. They run around $500 for a complete setup around here WHEN you can even find them. I still think the only sure-fire way to do this swap is with proper 94-95 parts for proper rim fitment but now i'm curious about the options.
 
So what year rangers are used for the swap?

I am mostly after wheels choices and save $$ right now. If I can just buy ranger front rotors, a pair of LEFT ranger rear axles, and a pair of ranger drums then that seems like a dream come true...

This is a driver so I am not super critical on fancy wheels, more interested in being able to have a few sets of tires for both my '89 4cyl commuter and my 95 vert.
 
The easiest most failsafe way is still the: (2) 29 5/32" 83-92 Dr. Side Ranger axles and drums, and a SN95 front end kit with spindles and rotors that is the easiest way to assure every wheel option you would ever want to run in the front would work without issue.
 
Problem I have here is about the same as others are having: Everyone that finds a junked SN95 has a hard time snapping up the front-end parts before someone else does it, first. And then, even when you do see someone selling the parts on Craigslist or something, they want like $500 for a bunch of rusty used junk, and then you're looking at needing new rotors, pads, and so forth just to make the crap actually work. :rolleyes:

I dunno. I can see the point of going with the SN95 stuff for the better brakes and all if you're going to upgrade to 5-lug, but unless I get lucky in the forseeable future, the $400 50resto kit might be the only option I even have available. I mean, I'd hate to go buy a beat-up V-6 SN95 for $1,000 just so I can strip it of the front and rear end goodies, maybe also the seats, and then send it off to a junkyard - seems overly expensive, and a total waste of a Mustang. :shrug:
 
as far as the ranger rear axles, can you only use the years from 83-92. or can you use the rangers that are 93-96 or so. and i was told that the lincoln mark 7 or mark 8 rotors will fit, does anyone know how true that is and if they can be used? thanks
 
the ranger axels are not fox length after 92...

Mark7 front rotors will work fine with the foxbody front brake calipers. but the problem is most after market 5 lug rims will have a clearance issue in the center cap area.
 
everything depends on what wheels your going to run,if your running 9" wide rim then you must get 94-95 spindles and 2 driver side ranger rear axles.if your running and 8" wheel you can use 96-98 spindles and sn rear axles. i wouldnt suggest going 5 lug any other way besides doing it with sn front brakes at least.otherwise yo will have dust cap fitment problems as well as retaining the smaller crappy brakes.plus if you get sn fronts then you dont have to repack bearings ever,they used sealed units and brake jobs are a breeze.im doing this to my lx now.100 for the entire front set up,20 bucks for each drum brand new and 100 bucks for the axles,240 bucks and worth every penny.

I have a set of 95 calipers now, just need the spindles now then I can go after the rear end parts...
 
I actually have a chance to get my hands on a wrecked 95 V6 for $150. As far as I've read, my best choice is to use the SN95 front end and then try to source the D/S rear axles from an 86-92 Ranger along with a pair of new drums and SS lines for the front from Maximum Motorsports. Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong:D Also, If I DO decide to use the rear axles from the SN95, will they be longer than my Fox ones and cause a 17x9 wheel to stick out? I plan on running Mach 1 wheels on the car. Furthermore, can I use the rear disk setup from this car and if so what else will I need?
