? about 4.10 Gears

Well, it's only money. Maybe if you pull them now, you can see them used and get half your money back. Also, I respect you for coming back and posting that. Most people, would not have posted that. They would let the post die without a result. You manned up and posted that you went ahead and tried the cheap route and ended up confirming our thoughts. Much respect. :nice:

I also have the 4.10 "A"s and like I said, they still whine. Installer looked at it again and said the pattern looked perfect and the backlash was still correct. I'm just gunna do it myself now. So I only have myself to blame.

My installer said he is having problems with th 05-07 and the FRPPs made by Motive. Mine whine through the all the ranges but are actually quieter at 70 than 40. He is going to change them out to the older more expensive FRPPs for $85 (tt&l). He said he can put my old gears in an 04 and anything older and there will be no whine. I know plenty of guys with the older models that have taken whiney gears off 05-07 models and put them on theirs with absolutely no whine.

I think this is noble of an installer to stand by his work.:flag:

All of them should stand by their work...at least the ones I'd go to. There is something different with the clutch packs in the new model that is causing the problems. Glad you're getting yours taken care of:nice:

Just remember the saying "Penny wise, Pound foolish". As mentioned earlier, a week after you spent that xtra $100.00 you will have forgotten all about. Use the cheaper set, and don't worry they won't let you forget you should have spent the xtra money.

I have Motive gears and they whine. It has gotten better over the last 40k miles, and they whine due to a poor install. NEVER EVER cut corners and have a backyard mechanic install your gears!

I installed new mufflers and now I can't hear the whine at all.:p

I just got the FRPP "A" gears in and am having them installed this week. I had the Motives installed a few months ago and have some whine so I'm going to see if I can get some better results with the Ford gears. I'll let you all know how it is as soon as I get them put in later this week.

You should be happy with them, I have the FRPP gears and no whine at all. Good Luck:flag:

I Bought a set of motive 3.90's and I have to say all that whine everyone complains about is no biggie at all first of all if u have an off road xpipe and full exhuast it isn't really going to matter. I do admit I do hear a little whine sometimes but it's not someting that would drive you crazy... in the end it's ur preference cause to me the performance is what matters and not a little whine that I cant hear half the time anywayz.

Well I was going to deal with it because like you said, the performance is what matters. Then it seemed like it has gotten worse lately when the weather got colder. I turn the radio up, but you can still hear it through the radio. It's not that bad for me, but sometimes I'll take someone for a ride or go out with my girlfriend and want to talk and you can hear the wine pretty loud and it's just annoying. I've had several people ask me about it and I figure when I sell the car I'll have to either put the factory back in or do something about it so I might as well go ahead and do it so I can enjoy the silence while I'm driving it. Many people would just drive it like it is, and if I was doing mostly city driving I would leave it, but I drive mostly highway and that's when it is worst, when I'm cruising.

I would fix that asap. Have a shop take a look at it or who ever installed it because it seems that whine you have doesn't sound too good by the way your describing it. I've heard gears whining before but not to the point where it over takes the radio or a conversation.

Well the Motive gears are out and the FRPP in. They don't whine! I should have went with the slightly more expensive Ford gears in the first place. The mechanic said they lined up perfect and were very easy to set up (he also said the Motives were a pain to get lined up perfect). I know some guys running Motives in their '04-back Mustangs and not having any whine so I think it's more with the newer stangs. I guess I am going to sell the Motives now and try to get some of my money back. Woo hoo!!!

I had the FRPP 4.10 gears installed. The guy who installed them said they were the nicest gears he's ever installed. If you buy the FRPP gears a few months from now you'll have forgot all about the extra hundred bucks they cost you. But if you install the Motive gears you might always be saying "I wish I had bought the Ford gears, I hate that little whine." Just my two cents.

Should have listened back at the end of July. But better late then never. My FRPP gears have never ever whined. Why would anybody take a chance on those Motive gears? So many people can't be wrong.

There is a slight hum that gets higher pitched the faster I go. I assume this is somewhat normal. It is a very slight hum compared to whining that the Motives had. The Motive gears would whine really loud just when I had the throttle on cruise level. With the Ford gears it doesn't matter if I have any throttle or not, but it is very very slight. Also he didn't change the bearings because Napa gave me the wrong ones, but he said it should be fine since the bearing I had was only a few thousane miles old. Do any of you with the FRPP gears have this slight hum?

I'm not really worried about it. It's not really noticeable unless listen for it and I'm just glad to not have the whine that I did have. I just hope that it doesn't have anything to do with the bearing that he didn't change out.

Me I just said the heck with it, and did a little surfing till I found an 07 Shelby GT500 complete rear with 390s. No real dif other than about 50rpm dif bet 410s. Also has little heavier housing w/ bigger bearings, and 31 spline axles. All this for $450. Did the switch myself. No whine, and damn near bullet proof.
