Just got a new king cobra clutch kit installed last week. now all of a sudden i hear a knocking/tapping type sound coming from transmission. it seems like its coming right from this black box attached to the transmission. when you rev it up it gets louder and then when the going back down to idle it goes with the sound. when you rev it the sound will change and so on.

any ideas?

I can hear it inside the car too if i put my ear to the transmission its pretty loud at idle..

My engine and tranny both only have like 25,000 miles on them. i dont think the engine is making the nosie though. it sounds like right from the tranny.

Like when im shifting?

if thats whats your asking.. i cant really tell cause its loud with my hear next to the shifter in the car and outside its loud also but im not outside of it while im driving obviously lol but yeah..

1.) Thowout bearing defective, improperly installed or poor clutch cable adjustment.

2.) Pilot bearing not installed.

Both the above will require removal of the transmission to inspect them. The clutch cable adjustment will not require removal of the transmission.

Dropped it off at my mechanic.. he said when he had the tranny apart the throw-out bearing was vibrating like crazy and he also said that it looks like the throw-out bearing that i got that came with the king cobra clutch kit from UPR Products might be a cheap one. he said if tehy make all metals one that what i should get. he greased up the throwout bearing really good but i just picked it up and it started doing it again.

what do you guys think?

When i push the clutch in the sound does go away and it also does it at idle.

My mechanic said i already have a steel retainer and he said hes like 100% positive its the throw out bearing?

Best throwoutbearing to get?

I was looking at the McLeod 16100 but I'm selling the car soon so I dont wanna spend $60+ on a throw out bearing.

With the engine off, pull up on the clutch pedal until you hear a clicking sound. That is the sound of the rachet teeth adjusting the quadrant. Then start the car and see if the noise went away.
