Here's what I bought back in 2005...

As many of you know I over-rev'd my old combo at the track in 2005 and the result was bent exhaust valves. I originally thought I'd just put together a higher compression 306 with all of my existing parts and be done. Well, after going to the track to watch a few times and seeing how far everyone was progressing (namely seeing neon SRT4's with the mopar stage 3 package trapping 115-118mph) I knew that I wanted more. So I thought about doing a 347 stroker, but at the time I thought that the most I'd get out of it would be ~117mph with high compression, and replacing all of the induction and exhaust components based on what other 94-95 owners were/are running with similar setups. For the money it'd cost me I deemed it not to be worth it. Although I hate working on the car, I have the tools and friends to do just about anything to the car so i thought about making my own turbo kit. I started looking around at various setups and made a list of parts I'd need to buy. At the same time a semi-local guy posted up a PTK turbo kit complete with Swain coated hot side, turbosmart E-boost controller, and a T64e turbo. The deal was too good to pass up so I bought it. I then realized that I couldn't very well put this on a stock block as I myself have recommended against others doing it so I decided to build the proper foundation. That is why i built the Dart sportsman block based 331 stroker with all forged internals and 8:89:1 compression. I went with a 331 only because it wasn't too many cubes to cause an excessive amount of back pressure in the turbine housing since I'm stuck with a T4 flange turbo, and it was enough cubes to support a T76 if I ever feel the need for it. I did a LOT of research before I picked 331ci, I spoke with precision turbo, PTK, and many others and it seemed to be the best of both worlds, otherwise I'd have opted for a 363ci.

I'm still not sure if I'll be putting the turbo kit on as I have a major clearance problem with the motor mount "pad" on the K member and the driver-side header. I now have the ignition and the AEM stand alone for the turbo setup, all I need now is the fuel system and I'm set. Here's some pictures I took way back in 2005 of the kit mocked up on a old short-block I had laying around here at the house. I figure worst case scenario, I'll put the kit on and run it. If it gives me more problems than I can deal with I'll sell it and finish the 363 NA combo I've been dreaming of.

Here's the short-block with the head gaskets I'll be using. I don't think I've ever posted these pictures before:

I agree that it's absolutely beautiful (Paul, I hope you have it near the coffee table right now - that's art IMHO). :nice:

I also agree that I'm glad I'm not installing it. Even a plumber would be scared of those snakes. It's gonna be beautiful once it's in (and no it's not coming back out - after the install you'll never want to touch any of it ever again). :D

Best of luck with the install.
