Is the battery cable the only thing you disconnected? Did you disconnect the big wiring harness connector? Also, I had ended up with water in my ECU connector(inside the car) I was causing all sorts of craziness including the theft light and no starting.

Are you the first owner of the car ? If not are you 100% sure there wasn't a dealer installed aftermarket alarm in your car ? Some alarms will cause the car not to start if they loose battery power. They come back on in an armed possition and you have to turn them off with a remote to get the car to start. Look under the dash on the drivers side. These things are hard to see some times. They are usually little black boxes with a bunch of wires spliced into the factory harness. If you do find one, get all the numbers you can off of the box and buy a transmitter for the box. Or you can try and remove it but some surgery is going to be in order for the harness and working under that dash is a royal pain.
