MEXI-BLOCK QUESTIONS

Im sure there are others on here who would like some history to the notorious block made by our friends of the south. Ive heard allot of here-say about them but no real facts i.e. production dates, roller setups, do's and dont's, h.p. ratings, ect. So anyone out there that has knowledge of these blocks please teach me the way!

Never saw a roller block but then again Ive only ever seen 2 of them. I had 351 and my buddy has a 302. Definitely more meat there as far as casting goes.

the journels have more meat on them and they have slightly thicker sidewalls also. If you can get one I highly recom. it. I had mine stroked to a 347 and all forged internals. I wouldn't hesitate to put a blower on it or even nos but remember just like the stock block the mexi blockes have limits to so dont go hog wild. If you head that route go with a race block...good luck

I do have a 306 mexi shortblock with a tfs stage 1 cam allready installed, my main question is what kind of lifters do I run in a non roller block with a roller cam???

In the lifter valley it should say "Hecho en Mexico" if its a mexi block.

You can use the stock lifters. You need the spider and the dog bone and lifters from a roller. You will have to grind and tap the block and space the spider up to where it needs to be.

Only way to use the stock lifters is if you invest in a small base circle cam or your lifters will be pushed up out of the bore. IMO the only way to (correctly) retro fit a non roller block for a roller cam is the pay the extra money for the lifters with the link bar and use a full size roller cam.
