Anyone running 40 Series tires on their 17s?

Hey Guys.
Well, have the SSBC front disc setup on my '66 Mustang and picked up a set of 17x7 w/4" backspacing tt2s for the front, and 17x8 with 4 3/4" bs for the rears. With all new suspension, shelby mod and 620s, I'm planning having the fronts just tuck.

But I want a slight rake, and want the car to sit low. Is anyone running 40series tires all around? (besides dodgestang ;) ). I want to run the 255/40/17 on the back (~25"diameter) and run a 215/40/17 in the front. But at 23.8" diameter, Im worried that it will be too much of a rake, and worried the the 40series rubber might be too skinny, and not fill in any fender gap without the car being way way too low. The next step up is 215/45/17 and its ~24.6" in diameter. Thinking its too close to the rears to not give any rake at all.

Anybody running these sizes? Have pics?

Thanks
Nate

Sorry the car isn't finished yet but I have a similar combo you are looking at. I have 17 x 7 up front with 225/45's and 255/45 18's out back on 18 * 8 wheels.

Same wheel sizes and type as yours with 235/45R17 all around - a good looking and decent-performing combination. It's about as much tire as I can stuff in the front without some serious sheetmetal surgery, but I could go a bit wider in the back. In my opinion, by the way, you're better off controlling your stance with front and rear ride height, not with mixing and matching tires sizes.

I'm running 255/40/17 on the rear and 225/45/17 on the front w/o rubbing. Wheels are 17x8 4.75 b/s all around.
I thought about going for a 215/40/17 on the front but saw a few others w/ that size on the front and it just didn't look right to me, had to much of that redneck beater Camaro rake going on. Just my .02

Mine are TTII's w/ 17X7 up front and 17X8 in back. Soon I'm gonna swap to 17X9.5 in the rear. I have 245/45/17's all the way around and no rubbing except in the front I lack about a half turn lock to lock due to the rear inside part of the tire rubbing just a bit.

Really need to get my suspension going.

Here's a pic anyways.

What's wrong with Dodgestang :(

Are there any tire choices in 225 40 17?

Thanks for replying guys.

Dodgestang,
Lol..nothing wrong with your set up :) I just wanted something a little skinner in front. Unfortunately, I haven't come across any 225/40's. Its always 225/45d. Weird.

But looked into the 215/45/17s, they are 24.6" in diameter vs 255/40/17s. So just a slight difference, and hopefully the 255 will have a thicker sidewall vs the 215/45. But I'll have to physically check the tire out first.

Thanks for posting up pics!

BTW..ga's pony looks sweet!
