Roush Buy It Now 110,000 dollars, lol

Gearbanger you are wrong!!! We also have a new black supercharged S-281 and it can't keep up with the S-351!!! The S-281 is fast but seems more refined than the S-351! S351Saleen77 I have the magazines you are right!! The first test is of a Red Non Supercharged S-351 and the next month they ran a test on a Wht. Supercharged S-351! They almost had it in the 10's!! It was in a 1996 Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine ! Mark

Mark very Nice!:nice: If I remember right the article on the white R code had a slipping clutch didn't it??

I did edit my other posts on the non S/C S351's power....I searched and found this info..371hp@5100rpm 422ft lbs@3500rpm in 94-95, 1996 up had T/W heads and were rated at 400hp@5100& 432ft lbs@3500. I think this is correct?? The R codes made 480-505hp depending on the year?

footnfan- I would love to go for a ride in your Shelby!! I want to put a 351 stroked to 427ci in my 67 Fastback!!

Hey Dan, I should have said in my last post ( Stock Shelby!) Im not picking on you Shelby! I know my 67 GT 350 was stock except it had a Lemans cam and a double pumper holley! My S-351 was is lot faster! But the 67 had the cool factor!! I just had used to idle around town and people wanted to run me!! This was in 1981! I sold it to a guy in Ohio that still has it! He has put a total on 700 miles since i sold it to him!I talk to him every year and have 1st dibs at it if he sells it. Can you post any pics of your Shelby? Mark

S351 Saleen77, Yes the clutch was slipping cause the used 10.50x 28 Slicks with the 3.27 gear!! It says if they would have had a lower gear it could have seen the 10's! I have both the magazines in the trunk of my S-351! I need to take the cover off the car and re-read the article!! ( The pic of the 67 in my last post was my old 67 in 1981 !) Miss it bad! Mark

Mark, Nice pic of the 67!! I always wanted a 67 GT350, I even had the Goodyear GT Radial tires on my 67 back then too!! A buddy wanted to trade me in the late 80's his 67 GT350 for my 67 Fastback which was/ is white w/ blue stripes and $10k....I was like no way...too much money.....boy how I wish I had done it now!!:(

At least I still have my 67 and I can't believe all the new suspension / rack & pinion stuff they have out now. I would love to do that and big brakes & a 427 stroker!! My 67 got in a mag in 1984 Mustang and Fords I think was the name of it, the article was "High School Sweetheart". When I bought my S351 I wanted both but decided on the Saleen after seeing 2 -S351's out at Seattle International Raceway going around in a open track event . The cars sounded completely different than everybody else with the Borla's and they were just flying!! I remember now there was also a white S351 Convert that Ken Griffy Jr had bought from Harris Ford in Lynnwood Wa, when he was playing for the Mariners!!

Thanks again for sharing the pic!!
Tom

Dan, That is a great looking Shelby!!! 66 and 67 are my favorite years!!! I always liked the blue with the wht. stripes too! Did you do anything to it since you bought it? Tom, don't you wish you could turn back time and change things!!! I sold my 67 GT 350 cause I built a house for us and needed a little money to finish it so we wouldn't have a morgage payment!! I wish I would have just borrowed $ 8,500.00 to finish the house now!!! I also remember the wht. S-351 Conv. you were talking about! I had a SSC and a neighbor of ours had a brand new S-351 and he used to drive by the house with it and it sounded good with those Borla's! That is when I decided to get my S-351! Plus my 2 boys were young then and they both couldn't fit in my SSC! Mark

Please do not compare a classic Shelby car to this. From a performance standpoint, most modern cars would kick their butts, but you are not buying a classic car like a Shelby for that reason.

Heck, I can throw an S-trim on a 4.6-3V and give the S351 a run for it's money.

Very true! But, in say 20 years, what will that S351 be worth?

Not that i plan on ever selling, but my '88 vert in say 20 years BETTER be worth $40K+.

I guess all it takes is time.

I don't really see the comparison here between a 10 year old car and a 40 year old car.
Love s351's, probably amongst my favorite saleens, next to a fox body vert, but realistically the car can be duplicated fairly easy compared to a mustang from the 60's. 94-99 chassis are easy to come by.
67 chassis are not.

When all the 94-04 mustangs are in the junkyard or stripped down, that's when the value of an s351 will sky rocket.
If i were to have an s351 it would be to drive it, not collect it for value.

They are reproducing 67 Fastback chassis now.:D ........the whole thing is that they made a little over 300 S351's.

So the start of the thread was the guy asking 100k for one, yeah he will never get it but what will these cars be worth in the future?
Sure you can duplicate a 67 Shelby or a S351 but it will NEVER be close in value to a real one. I actually have a 67 Fastback and I think it would be easier because they reproduce everything for the old cars. I just lost on Ebay last night $900 for 2 Saleen alcon calipers that are correct for my year....no place to get these with the Saleen engraved...or I don't have the Borla exhaust on the one I just bought.......You can't get it anywhere even from Borla....they will never be reproduced in my opinion.....or the Recaro seats with Saleen stiched in them.......the early ones I think would be much easier to do.

In 67 they made 1,175 GT350's, 2,048 Gt500's, 1 notchback prototype,1 convert prototype for a total of 3,225..................They only made a little over 300 S351's from 1994-2000 in 7 years....... Thats the comparison....what will happen to the future value of the s351's??

In some ways, I agree, there may be many parts that are Saleen specific that may never be reproduced. But we don't know what will happen in 30 years. It is very possible, you may be able to get Saleen calipers, only time will tell.

Bottom line, we do not know what the Saleen will bring in 15-20 years, but we know what the Shelby is worth now, and most likely will continue to grow in value. The Saleen . . . nice car . . . low mileage, but is it worth $100K right now? Personally, I do not think so.

Like I said earlier In this thread, I had a choice 7 years ago between a Shelby and a S351, who would have thought a Shelby would have gone up 400%?? Not me!. If I would have known I would have bought one! Bottom line......... there are only a little over 300 S351's period!!

I also said in the response above your's that he will never get 100k. I have been saying all along this entire time, WHAT could they be worth in the future??. I never said that the car on Ebay is worth 100k. I said he would Never get get! Look at the second response in this thread on page 1, It was me, I couldn't believe the price! I thought he was crazy!! I forgot to mention that the zip on the auction is local for me but I have never seen the car.

Will they ever reproduce the early intakes cut/welded/ extruded honed? The computer? floormats? Alcons? motor mounts? Recaro seats leather/cloth front & rear? Tail light covers for 94-95 ? Who know's? I wouldn't make parts that would only apply to such a limited run of cars. The 67 Shelby I was talking about that they made 3225 of..... 10 TIMES as many in one year vs. a 7 year production run. Would I make parts for that if I was in business to make a profit?..I probably would .

The reality is, they will make the parts that cannot be made in a shop if there is a call for them. People want to have Shelby recreations, and that is why Shelby specific parts are made. The total number of all Shelby's was less than 1/2 of 1% of the total Mustang production. That being the case, most likely, if there was no call for recreations, most of the parts available on the market today would not be available. If there is no groundswell for S351 recreations, then the parts will not be made in 30 years.

I feel the S351 may become a true collector in the future, but that will depend who will it appeal to. Will it appeal just to the Saleen groupie or will it have wider appeal to the general collector car crowd, that is the great unknown.

If it gets to the wider audience, it will really shoot up in value. The Buick GNX and to some extent the GN's are proof of this. If you look at it as little as 3 years ago, yjey mainly appealed to the Turbobuick crowd. Now it is appealing to a wider group of collectors and in this short period of time they have increased in value 200-300%.

If Saleen bites the dust, which is still a very good possibility, that will help all Saleen's with the S351 probably being the biggest beneficiary of this.

Exactly.
If the last s351 that sold a couple years back on barrett jackson is any indication, the future is bleek.
I still see saleen vehicles as drivers, not collectors. Though it could change.
So if any of you guys would like to lend me your s351, i would glady test and re-test the durability of your rear tires.
I'd probably be a menace to society behind the wheel of one.

Good points only time will tell.

I remember in the mid to late 80's they were making most of the stuff for Shelbys already. Once Gone in 60 seconds came out the 67,68 Fastbacks took off. Now Shelby is reproducing them from the old cars. I got a 68 GT 390 4spd car right after the movie before the frenzy and Barrett Jackson for $2500 that needed restoration. About 2 or 3 years ago I saw a wrecked one on Ebay that needed everything got 10k and the owners couldn't believe it!

I still think the S351's are still too new, thats why the Barrett Jackson car didn't do well a few years ago. Last year a Ford GT sold for what it did new.....give it 40yrs and they will be through the roof! I wish I could afford one of them now!

They need to make a Hollywood movie with the S351 as the star :D I have 2 red 95's that they can use!!

You hit the nail on the head when it comes to Barrett Jackson. Newer cars have little appeal to the purchasing public at a Barrett Jackson or any of the other collector car auctions. People looking to purchase at these auctions are looking for older, classic cars, not something they can find on a used car lot or Ebay.

I found this out the hard way, when I ran my 87 Grand National through Barrett Palm Beach last spring. It was a 6,700 original mile, un-molested original paint car. Basically, I got what I paid for it. I would have been better off selling it on Ebay.

There are many misconceptions about the BJ auctions, that people with contemporary cars don't understand. It does not make an instant winner or collectible, and most people walk away unhappy with their results.
